No. I think this is 'cause they want to appear to be doing something, anything. They have deployed large numbers before. Problem is, all states are facing emergencies at the moment, so there aren't that many to go 'round.

Not for nigh on forty years, mate. I am overage and over the hill. It is a young persons' game nowadays.

I am glad they are not fighting fires untrained...

it isnt just a matter of putting out fires....

we are on alert here in ACT and I was told the RFS wasnt going to look at fighting the fire or keeping property safe just looking after saving lives if this fire tsunami hits us.....

they are stretched and appear to be the only ones trained for a catastrophe of this proportions....

all I know is... NZ is earthquake bound and everywhere you go there are What to do instructions we seem to have nothing of that kind for HUGE FIRES.....I dont even know if any of our emergency services.. are actually affiliated..

does the left hand know what the right hand is doing

kind of thing??

at least our ADF is trained to follow orders without question.... I hope they keep safe.

No. I think this is 'cause they want to appear to be doing something, anything. They have deployed large numbers before. Problem is, all states are facing emergencies at the moment, so there aren't that many to go 'round.

I think Scumo is suffering from severe embarrassment after all the criticism and is now overreacting.

However the extra 4 water bombing planes sounds a good idea

Not sure about big water bombing planes being all that useful, Red.

In the past the authorities have made it clear they prefer smaller aircraft because they are easier and quicker to load than big planes and can land on roads/small paddocks/airstrips. Big planes work when you have a lot of larger airstrips and loads of tankers to fill them with. In Australia, we also lack large bodies of water for the most part so seaplane aircraft like the Canadair CL215/415s are out. Roll Eyes

exactly we stopped building dams yonks ago... why did we ever stop?????????

maybe the desalination plants could be used??...I dunno anything about logistics so probably not...

we are lets face it totally unprepared......and I dont put all the blame on Morrison.

best I think they can do bri is give those a break that have done so much already....

lets be fair this is unprecedented...

Another problem that will emerge after these fires is the amount of water that has been used to fight the fires and the amount of water that will be contaminated from ash and dead animals....This disaster is just beginning to unfold and the consequences yet to really understood....I fear we have left this action far too late to make a difference!!!

Not quite, Cods, not quite. The problem is that dams silt up quite quickly, so they hold less water. We have damned most rivers, often more than once. Damming rivers tends to also make things downstream a little dicier for the people who live there.

I suppose we could see Canadair CL215/415s skimming the surface of Lake Burley-Griffin, hey, Cods?

Scotty, from Marketing is the man at the top. He is the one who is held responsible for what is occurring. Some of it goes back decades but well, he's the one who decided he wanted to be the PM, no one else. Time he took responsibility for what has happened and started to do something about fixing it. It's a compulsory call-up as well, I wonder what the penalty will be for any reservist who can't make it? Forfeit two months pay and confined to a prison lock-up for the rest of Summer?

They would be charged with being "Absent without leave from a parade or place of rendezvous" under the old Military Law manual. No idea what it would be now. Roll Eyes

There's always penalties for non-compliance of compulsory requirements. You can be sure the military and Lib politician bastards will think of some sort of punishment, but we won't hear about what it'll be.

The Reservists volunteered to do military training in the first place, they don't deserve to have any penalty hanging over them. The thing is, had the military asked for reservists to volunteer to do this bushfire work, they might have got more than 3,000 volunteers

So like I said they don't have much to add to the capacity, just the logistics and hopefully the cleanup

I think everything will be very much appreciated gordy when this is over...its going to take a long time to adjust for thousands....I would imagine tradies will be in great demand....we have had PANIC set in in Canberra we were put on alert for the devils weather today....and the shops were emptied in a flash.....

we dont seem to deal very well and really Canberra hasnt been under any pressure until now...
