I have suggested a few things in other thread but get howled down or called a dickhead..or words to that affect......

What would I do, if I was Scotty from Marketing?

I'd declare a national emergency. I would form an equivalent to a war cabinet and I would invite the Leader of the Opposition to serve as deputy PM for the duration of the emergency.

I would bring the ADF in. I would bring from overseas the help which had been refused at the start of the Bushfires from France and the US. I would organise a national response to the problem of the bushfires.

I would prepare the ADF to fight bushfires. I'd provide them with training in how to do it and equipment to do it with. Time the ADF earnt their pay.

I would call upon the Australian people to support the bush fire fighters.

I would organise the states to conduct regular burnoffs to reduce the fuel load. I would employ Indigenous Australian firestick methods to do it with .

Once it was all over and done with, I'd then organise victory parades and then I'd keep my mouth shut and tell all my ministers to keep their mouths shut about what they had done. If Scotty, from Marketing likes to get votes out of this, I'd recommend he leaves it to the Australian electorate to reward or punish him.

Most of the Garrison Support functions like cooking, cleaning and support functions like fire fighting on bases were contracted out to SERCO or TransField years ago. Navy used to have it's own firefighter branch and all the equipment that went with it. Now, they call the local firebrigade if there is a serious fire on a base that the duty watch can't handle. I have been at Army and RAAF bases over the years where it is the same. They have a small self defence against fire, but everything else is contracted out. RAN do haver firefighter theory and practical training for firefighting that has to requalified for evry few years but it is really only for shipboard use and in the main not a transferable skill for fires the size we are seeing at the moment

Acclaimed Australian bush pilot Dick Lang, and his son Clayton, have been killed in the catastrophic bushfire that scorched more than 150,000 hectares on Kangaroo Island.

The Advertiser has been told prominent Adelaide tourism operator Dick, and his son died in the inferno.

SA Police Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams confirmed two deaths during a media conference in Adelaide on Saturday morning.

“Regrettably, we can confirm that two people are deceased in the fire,” Ms Williams said.

A CFS crew discovered the body of one person in a burnt-out car on the Playford Highway at Gosse, and a second body was also found nearby.

“I don’t want to make assumptions but I would say it’s linked to a vehicle that was discovered near Parndana.”

Premier Steven Marshall described the deaths as a tragedy.

“Our hearts go out to the family of those affected,” he said.

Mr Marshall said the fire had destroyed the majority of the Flinders Chase National Park in the southwest of the island — Australia’s third-largest.

“The fires that occurred (on Friday) were significantly worse than in 2007 in Flinders Chase because it took out all of the building infrastructure within this national park,” he said.

shops emptied garages closed due to greedy....we need to have rationing at times like this....instead we run around like chooks with no heads....my daughter who I depend on very much is having PANIC attacks..due to the stress running around trying to buy bottled water....and this just in case we get the fire... Sad

It was a long time ago but my platoon was sent to fight a fire close to Holsworthy camp and all we were given was shovels, no water or anything. Lucky for us, the fire had just about burnt out by the time we got there
