So what about the jetliner that the US accidentally shot down in 1988 that killed 290 people? Incidental to this incident, and there appear to be similarities... I'd suggest the main difference being that Iran was not in direct conflict at the time of this shoot-down... the US cruiser was engaged in a gunfight. Iran had no such incident occurring at this time and it looks like a wilful act of stupidity to me.
