One dead on the gold coast apparently.
Beautichan. Travelled back from Iran. She treated 40 patients before she died.

I looked it up, she is in Gold Coast uni hospital in a stable condition but 40 people that came in contact with her are being tracked down
And I am going up there on the Gold Coast on Tuesday to visit daughter.
Not feeling very confident in amongst crowds of airports, but must keep positive.
At least whomever gets the virus will be well looked after in our own country. Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye .....

https://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/gold-coast/gold-coast-coronavirus-outb...

Besides her 40 clients I'm wondering how many others who were on the same plane as her when she came into Australia have also caught it? And, where are they now? Didn't see that mentioned in the linked news article?

This thing could now be all over Australia in a matter of weeks or less. I think we're screwed but I did see it coming... was just a matter of time.

Can we predict  the Gold Coast will have an outbreak of more to come down with the virus then?
It has begun.
Out first Australian death in WA news released just now.

Think about that, remember all the smoke from our recent bushfires?
Recall how the smoke was going around the globe and back again only to give us those Smokey hazy days each time the smoke went round and round the globe?

Well maybe there’s something about an aerosol virus that can do that too, otherwise, how else can someone catch this virus with no apparent contact with anyone with the virus????

No and No
It's likely the victim did come into contact with a person with the virus.

But thanks for showing a perfect example of how misinformation gets spread around the internet

Not sure what you're all panicking about.

Trump said it goes away in the warm weather.

They've forecast 30 degrees for Perth today, and for the rest of the week too.

Probably.

I'm sure I've also seen somewhere this morning that Victoria now has its first confirmed case. Wonder if it's someone who was on the same flight as the beautician who returned from Iran and they've flown on to Victoria?

Might be time to pack up and move to Tasmania although I won't be surprised if they also get it soon. The only way to stop it getting there (if it isn't there already) is to stop everyone from going into that State from now but that isn't likely to happen.

Enquiring minds want to know, nothing wrong with asking questions.
Where is the solid evidence of how when and where?
If the answers were known we would not have this escalating problem no?

Breaking news, our first Australian death from this virus.

A man in his 70s from Diamond Princess has succumbed to the virus and died in WA.

Sad but was always going to happen. Hope we can minimise the worst results.

Lols... it's like trying to herd cats, remember?

All it takes is one person coming into the country with the virus. Who knows how many others catch it from them during the flight?

By the time the original carrier shows symptoms, anyone else who caught it on the plane is long gone on their merry way and they're in the process of spreading it to others. Rinse and repeat.

As I said somewhere near the beginning of this marathon thread, money (airline and airport profits, tourism, etc.) is more important than peoples' health and lives these days. Same reason why people have to suffer (and many die) from the flu every year.

Hope so Dnarever.
The notable thing about this particular virus is that more males die from it than females.
The couple in WA, both in their 70s, from the Diamond Princess, both had the virus, the husband had just passed, the wife is stable and recovering.

Carl, what concerns me is some think it’s panic or spreading false info, whereas I see it as possibilities, a what if situation, and rather than sticking the head in the sand, as some do, it’s best to do as the good scouts motto advises “be prepared”.

If a Government thought it’s all sensationalism to sell papers (as someone implied in another forum) or if our Government was saying not to panic etc do we have trust our government to do right by us by being cautious or only act when it’s too late?

I have a hunch they knew it was only time. All inbound flights were not stopped early enough, this virus has an incubation of up to 27 days.
And all masks bought out for medical and military only in Oz already?
All about “be prepared”.

Just checked the local Chemist Warehouse -
they haven't been able to buy any N95 masks for over 3 weeks.

Coronavirus: New Queensland case has no links to China

As many as 40 people may have been exposed to coronavirus after an infected woman worked at a Gold Coast shopping centre.

The first coronavirus case in Australia with no links to China has been confirmed, with as many as 40 people now at risk of exposure to the virus after the infected woman worked at a Gold Coast shopping centre.

The 63-year-old woman is currently in isolation at the Gold Coast University Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. She is in a stable condition.

Chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said the woman had recently returned from Iran, where there are more than 388 confirmed cases and coronavirus is rapidly spreading.

Speaking to reporters at lunchtime Dr Young said the woman, who worked as a beautician on the Gold Coast, had arrived in Australia from Iran “perfectly well” on Monday.

She had shown no signs of illness on the flight or first days back in the country until Thursday when she began showing “minimal symptoms” of coronavirus.

The beautician began to feel unwell at work that and spoke to her manager before leaving to seek medical help.
