There is a time and place for conspiracy nonsense and this isn't it.

The best weapon we have against the virus is an informed population.  Not people thinking gargling their mouth with salt water will kill the virus, or drinking bleach will help.

And once a vaccine has been developed, do you think all the people claiming this has been big pharma deliberately infecting the world in order to sell vaccinations for a profit are going to take it, or the regular anti-vaxxers?

How many more heartbreaking posts do we need to see for the regular Flu or Measles, Mumps etc do we need to see of parents asking for naturopathy advice desperate to heal their children when they've refused to get them vaccinated and turned their backs on accepted medicine because it's all part of Big Pharma only to end the comment thread saying their child died from a totally preventable disease?

Do we want these same idiots or those like them getting infected with Corona Virus, ignoring all the medical advice in reducing transmission and good hygiene and instead drinking bleach or turning to the other quackery alternative medicines these Facebook groups, vlogger and bloggers are selling and in turn spreading the virus even further giving it a great chance to mutate and become even more infection, lethal or even both?

Why should those of us doing the right thing have to pay the price for their mistakes?

Stopping the spread of misinformation will only help idiots like them being duped because they lack the critical thinking skills required to tell bullshit from fact.

Even as the mod of the fringe, the truth still matters.  Clearing out these ridiculous conspiracies that are being pushed by people trying to profit from the hysteria should be part of the moderation, but if it's in the Fringe I'm leaving it there because hopefully, the very fact that it's in that forum will be enough for even the most gullible person to bother a fact check.

Especially when it could cost lives having this blatantly false information out there.

There all things I've seen family and friends share on social media. Since I know them, I know they're sharing the information with the best of intentions, but it's still not good enough.

I know hitting "Share" or "Retweet" is much easier than fact checking, but it's still not good enough.

And they are real-world examples of some of the misinformation being spread about the virus but by no means representative of all the misinformation spread.

And it doesn't change the truth about what I've said. The spread of misinformation is dangerous and the best defence against the virus is a well-informed population.
