It seems not a huge panic situation as I travelled between Coolangatta airport and Tullamarine airport.

I only saw in the space of an hour ‘n half at Coolangatta airport, 6 people wearing masks.
In Tullamarine airport I saw only 2 people wearing masks,
I was on interstate flights only, so I can’t vouch for the international area.

No, I didn’t bother with wearing a mask.
I had it in my hand luggage. But more for assurance and only if, a dire need arise to have to wear it.
Much like anything I take when travelling, Panadol, bandaids, sanitizer wipes, eye drops, throat lozenges, etc.

Wearing a mask is pointless, unless you have the virus.  Masks will not stop you getting the virus.   Roll Eyes

Tell that to the nurses in the hospitals.

YouTube videos don't cut and the CDC doesn't cut since Trump has slashed it's funding.  Poor try.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Did you watch it at all?

Here is a specialist and just because it’s “YouTube” doesn’t mean it’s not real or invalid and no need to discount it because you don’t like YouTube.
There’s lots of different stuff on tv too that’s either bs or real, same with any media platform.

I think Brian could do with a butt plug to lower his risk of infection.

Once again - with have a keyboard expert who knows more
than every nurse and doctor in the world who wears a face mask.

Minutes? They'd spend more time putting them on and taking them off than working.

Current recommendations are that a new surgical mask is used for each surgical case and that they should be changed when wet (National Association of Theatre Nurses, 1998). Some respirators are claimed to be effective for a full shift, although storage to avoid contamination between cases would be problematic (Anon, 1999).

They wear them to prevent themselves passing on any germs that they may have to their already sick patients.

As Brian said: the masks won't stop you getting the virus.

But, people are idiots, and they won't listen.

Buy toilet paper and wear masks if it makes you feel safe - I couldn't give a bugger.

Another 36 people also died as a result of the virus,

taking the total to 233 dead in Italy.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/03/italy-poised-seal-north-coronavirus-live-...

Italy has announced an unprecedented quarantine on its northern region of Lombardy and other badly affected areas on Sunday, impacting some 16 million people, as it steps up efforts to tackle Europe's largest outbreak of coronavirus.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte early on Sunday issued a decree that severely restricts the movement of individuals in the northern region and surrounding areas. The move comes as the country struggles to contain the virus's spread, with 1,247 new cases detected in the last 24 hours.

Another 36 people also died as a result of the virus, taking the total to 233.

They use them for both but masks alone don't really provide sufficient protection to stop you getting it as you also need your eyes protected but two less places for the virus to enter are better than nothing. Sure it's more ideal if the sick wear them but if the health worker doesn't know who is sick... It's pretty pointless wearing them wandering around willy nilly where ever you go though and is not going to help if someone cough up in your face.

Quote:
Conclusion
The rationale for wearing surgical face masks has shifted from protection of the patient to protection of the health professional. Despite this there remains a need to base the decision to wear a mask on the best available evidence (Sackett et al, 1996). Unfortunately, there is a lack of robust evidence for protecting nurse and patient.

Currently there is little evidence that wearing a surgical mask provides sufficient protection from all the hazards encountered in an acute health care setting. For this reason, the use of a respirator and face shield should be considered depending on the situation.

Now it's hit the defence force !!

Quote:
Coronavirus update: Two Australian Defence Force personnel infected by COVID-19 as Australian cases continue to climb

Two officers are in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19, while efforts are underway to trace their contacts when they travelled to a meeting at Defence Headquarters in Canberra.

This story is being updated throughout the day. Follow along for the latest updates.

ADF personnel among the infected

Two members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) are in isolation after contracting COVID-19.

The ADF says the two officers travelled to a meeting at Defence Headquarters in Russell, ACT on February 28 — but the ACT chief health officer Kerryn Coleman says only one did.

"[The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee] has clarified with me that while there are two positive COVID-19 cases in the ADF, only one of those positive cases travelled to Canberra on that day," Dr Coleman said.

She said the man returned a positive test last night.

The male officer, aged in his 40s, travelled on the 6:45am flight QF1509 from Sydney to Canberra to attend a meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Russell.

He then travelled on flight VA651 from Canberra to Sydney at 2:35pm.

He travelled by private car between the airport and Russell.

ACT Health says people seated in rows 2 to 6 on the QF1509 flight and those seated in rows 3 to 7 on the VA651 flight need to self-quarantine until March 13.

They should also call the Communicable Disease Hotline on (02) 5124 9213.

The ADF has not released any details about the second case.

There are still no confirmed cases of COVD-19 in the ACT.
