Legit questions that really need to be cleared up I believe.
Older folk who work in public areas could die from contracting the virus. .

I can't find anything that answers the question.

Pecca? You're a law person.
What's your take on it?

First it would have to be proven you caught the virus from your employment (workers compensation) and if the employer was negligent (workplace death / Compensation)....Otherwise you are entitled to accumulated sick leave /annual leave and your own insurance!!!

I thought it was a legitimate question???

Huh Huh Huh

Good question.

As a very, very basic answer:

If your employer insists that you fly to Iran or China for work tomorrow, and you catch the virus, you would probably be covered by workers' comp.

If you work in an Adelaide city office and you think a fellow worker gave you the virus (there's no way to accurately determine when or where someone catches the virus), you wouldn't be covered by workers' comp.

I'll research this more though, when I get back to work after my week off for St Pat's Day.

A letter writer in yesterday's paper was suggesting that possible huge lawsuits against the government(s) might be on the way if people start dying because of coronavirus.

The Federal government has had plenty of warning about what would happen if the virus arrived in Australia - why wasn't all non essential air travel into the country suspended over 2 months ago? (We know why - $$$$$).

Containment has failed everywhere else in the world so why would anyone think it was going to work here?

The airlines, travel and tourism industries were going to be bitten by this sooner or later - they could have been supported by the government's "stimulus package" if the borders had been closed earlier (everyone else could then have gotten on with their normal lives) and proper measures could have been put into place to prevent the virus getting loose here.

I had wondered about that also, a class action law suite.

First our government, then the CCP!

Its looking as though everyone in the world is going to get this virus anyway, just like the flu, its just how quick is the question, the slower the infection rate the better the hospitals will cope.

You don't get compo for the flu and it won't matter because it will probably kill us all in a couple of years.

The latest statistics are not encouraging.

Yes, and as I said in an earlier post a week or so back - when this coronavirus business (hopefully) comes to an end I wouldn't be surprised if people then start asking awkward questions like why do so many people suffer (and many die - 10,000 in the United States alone in their now coming to a close flu season from what I've heard) from the flu every year since it is spread from the northern to the southern hemisphere (and vice versa) primarily by air travel.

"Oh, its just the flu, we get that every year. Can't do anything about that. Sorry".

Obviously, as I also said in the earlier post, no screening of passengers for the flu has ever been done (and probably still isn't seeing as it appears that coronavirus screening is not being done properly at airports, if it is at all).

Its all about the almighty dollar, as always.  Peoples' health (and lives) isn't important.

https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6678504/new-zealand-enforces-mandatory-qu...

March 14 2020 - 4:51PM
New Zealand enforces mandatory quarantine

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced the "toughest border restrictions of any country in the world",
enforcing mandatory self-isolation on international arrivals, including Kiwi citizens.

After an emergency Cabinet meeting on Saturday afternoon, Ms Ardern declared the unprecedented measure to fight the growing spread of the coronavirus.

"We do not take these decisions lightly," she said.

"We have two choices as a nation.

"One is to let COVID-19 roll on. The other is to go hard on measures to stamp it out. It is in our power to slow it down.

"That's why we must go hard, and go early, and do everything we can to protect New Zealanders' health."

The decision effectively kills the country's tourism sector and will deliver a hammer blow to the economy.

But given the global pandemic, unprecedented in modern times, the restriction was met with support from the opposition National party.

"It's good to see coronavirus being treated with more seriousness and urgency for the good of our country," National leader Simon Bridges said on Twitter.

The measure will take effect as of midnight Sunday, and apply to every arrival except from Pacific countries - a region that is largely devoid of COVID-19 cases.

There are also exemptions for cargo ships, marine and air crew to allow the free passage of goods in and out of New Zealand.

A ban on foreign travellers from mainland China and Iran will be maintained.

The mass quarantine protocol will be reviewed after 16 days.

Ms Ardern has also placed a ban on foreign cruise ships docking at New Zealand ports until the end of June.

And next week, the government will announce a directive on public gatherings, expected to be similar to the Australian government's ban on
