whats really best for the very elderly?

stay away from people for 2 months whilst we let the herd immunity build up rapidly

or

have to stay locked up anyway for maybe 18 months, and see the economy so disrupted by all this mayhem, that they may not get food or care in their nursing home?
remember , if they close the schools (god knows why when kids hardly get affected) about 40 % of nurses will have to stay home to look after kids.
and if they close them, when do they reopen?
months?

months of 1/2 staffing in nursing homes.

thats a really bright idea.

the best option for old people is to rip the band aid off quickly.
let the young people catch it and then we can all go back to normal in june instead of june 2021

what a load of rubbish. There will e more than enough people to take up the staffing shortages

Rockhampton is having an outbreak of influenza. Just mildly, for now. Our only coronavirus patient has now required and scampered back to his region.

I'll see if I can find my post about it, but if you follow the blog and the article it claims states this, it doesn't.

It shows that the people who died in Italy from the virus had underlying conditions and the blogger has interpreted that as "well they didn't die of the virus then".

They did, sadly.

Their system was already overtaxed and they couldn't handle dealing with their preexisting condition and the virus.  The virus destroys lung tissue and the bodies initial response is to kill those infected cells, which then releases more of the virus in the system, infecting not only more lung cells but the T-Cells as part of the immune response.  For almost all healthy people, eventually, the immune system compensates for this, gets control and the virus is eliminated.

But depending on how long this takes and how much lung tissue is damaged, there can be lasting effects including compromised lung capacity and loss of taste and smell.

It's still early on and doctors are hoping taste and smell will return, but it's too early to know.

Long story short, those whose immune system is already battling something else cannot handle the virus and they either die from the damage to their lungs or secondary infections as their immune system is overtaxed.

Either way, them getting infected with the virus is what killed them.  The claim, the conclusion by the blogger is untrue and not supported by anything whatsoever.  It's a misleading interpretation of data to push a false claim.

I didn't have the patience to actually follow it up. But essentially the article confirms what we already know. Underlying conditions increase your risk of suffering severe consequences/death due to COVID

That's racist! Or at least Greg thinks you are a racist. I wonder why he hasn't called you on it.

The last time the MyGov site crashed it wasn't nearly as much an issue as now .......

and any wonder there's overload .... imagine all the new ones lining up for JobStart/Search now ...

now that the amount has doubled.

More money to search for jobs that aren't there ...

and with so many being stood down from business & industry that is winding down or shutting down.

They are the people that need the money before you double the amount for those who weren't working.  Roll Eyes

I understand they're temporarily removing the need to search for work.
