Its odd that the Indonesians have no confirmed cases of this virus  considering their close links to China and living close to animals.

Close links to China?  Really?  That'd explain why they regularly go out and kill hundreds if not thousands of Chinese in their society, right?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Do you think Indonesia will be equipped to handle an outbreak?

But health minister Terawan Agus Putranto told citizens to relax, advising that they could avoid the disease by not working overtime.

“To prevent it is very easy as long as your immunity is good,” he said. “Don’t fret. Just enjoy and eat enough.””

Basically he's right, unless you are young, old or have a pre-existing condition, Gordon.  Oh, and if you're recently travelled to China and in particular Wuhan.

Yes, I do think they will be able to handle an outbreak.  Just as well as we would.

Unlike you, I'm neither Islamophobic or Racist.  Roll Eyes

What a load of shyte Brian. You are so full of it.

edit: Oh and virtue signalling will not stop the virus.

Did I claim it would, Set?  What it means is that I don't prejudge people on the basis of their religion or what "race" they belong to...   Roll Eyes

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

For a long time Indonesia denied any AIDS cases in the country and refused to educate the population on prevention. This latest announcement doesnt surprise me.

And WTF does that have to do with the virus? You want to virtue signal not look at the facts. If it got into the Indonesian population there is no way they could handle it as well as Australia and it has nothing to do with race or religion unless the religion is saying "Allah will protect you".

The population size and density of Indonesia by it's self is enough to know that, let alone they are not as first world in the healthcare dept. China is having problems containing it and you think all Indonesians need to do is follow some halfwit saying "eat well and don't work overtime" will get them through and it would be racist to disagree. You are immensely stupid.

Indonesia hasnt a chance in hell of containing a flu epidemic. Their health resources just arent there. My theory on why there are so many Chinese people dying is that urban Chinese have inherently weaker immune systems, the other thing is that there are probably so many unreported cases so the death rate probably isnt anywhere near 2 percent, probably 0.2 percent more accurately. Which is still a lot but take into account other cultural factors and I dont  believe this virus will kill so many in other countries. A lot of people in the west now have contacted it and there are no mass deaths. Just one so far I believe. This is just looking to be a bad flu epidemic at the most.

Perhaps Brian should take up smoking. It'd be racist not to and what better way to signal your virtue to those out of earshot than with smoke signals?

Another factor would be lung health. The pollution + heavy smokers = more deaths.

Yes, if not the major factor.

The country  with the highest density of coronavirus at this stage
is Singapore. For a population of 5.7 million, it has 33 cases.  Of course most of those cases are visitors from Hubei province who were visiting for the Chinese New Year.

On the face of it you are twice as likely to encounter someone infected with coronavirus in Singapore than in China taken as a whole.

I also notice that China is conducting trials with the same drugs that were used in Thailand to cure coronavirus patients.

As far as Indonesia goes, a great many people would not be able to afford medical treatment, and ethnic Chinese would tend to avoid hospitals due to the stigma. Most of them have changed their names to Indonesian names because of the prejudice that has been rife in Indonesia for many years.

There are probably many people infected with coronavirus who are in bed with home remedies such as Luo Han Guo tea which is almost regarded as a panacea.

Of course China is now by far the biggest provider of aid to Indonesia. They know that aid comes with a foot in the door,

The main thing is that they are not actually treating most coronavirus patients in Wuhan.  They have so many cases that the best they can do is just isolate them in places like gymnasiums full of beds.  They are also short of everything including test kits. Faced with a choice of dying without your family in a gym or dying at home, I can see why so many would choose the latter.

At least we're down to 10 active cases now in Australia. Five have been cured and test negative.  The fatality rate is much higher in Hubei province (24,953 cases to date) than anywhere else in China, so I agree that outside China the fatality rate will be very low.

The Brits still have a few flights coming from China and the government is copping a lot of flac,  They have thermal imaging at airports, but if you look at the details about 30% of cases in Hubei are not reporting a fever. Thermal imaging is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike

Coronavirus evacuees headed for Darwin camp as anxiety grows over quarantined cruise ship

A second Qantas flight dispatched to rescue another batch of Australians from the virus-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan has hit a setback.

The Australian government is working with Chinese authorities to get clearance for a plane to airlift Australians out of the coronavirus epicentre of Wuhan after the evacuation was delayed overnight.

The plane, which was originally scheduled to leave Wuhan on Friday night, did not get clearance to land from China.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said the Qantas flight is presently

in Hong Kong.

“We are awaiting approval from the Chinese authorities to fly to Wuhan,” a spokesman told AAP.
