Camel: A Food gone to waste.

Recently, with all the Droughts n' such.
Food in Australia has become very expensive and is set to rise in price further.
(Ironic that food in USA is plentiful and cheap)
With Supermarket Chains gouging the Consumer upon petty excuses like the Oil Companies raise the price of fuel because a Sultan lost his sandel in the sand.

Meat is becoming more expensive - AGAIN.
Last time, Camel and Kangaroo were a cheap alternative and with Kangaroo being a higher quality of meat, than the best Wyagu meat produced.

This time though, Camels are being slaughtered by Farmers with Guns - just because they can and there is no PROCESSING of the meat for consumer use.

Talk about a waste of a Food Resource and a real lazy way to go about it.
I reckon the Farmers do it to get their jollies (with a 6 pack) at playing Toy Soldiers as usual. Something to shoot.
Of course there are some exuses like the 'Pest' one.

But if this is how Australian Farming is done?
Then it is not a good way to go about it.
Very unproductive.
Very piss poor effort.

So apparently this problem will be a special on Landline this coming week.

Camels can steal water from Farmers who try to make money out of Cattle not suited to such environments. By surrounding troughs, not letting cattle in, drinking more than cattle and smashing the troughs when they drain it - looking for more.
(although they drink far less 'times' than cattle who need it daily).

The Camels proliferate in such conditions though, Cattle don't.
Camels are shot up to x400 and left to rot on properties.

During the Meat Crises. Camel came out a winner in many stores as the Cheaper alternative and gained popularity (except in inner city cafe-latte little one lane streets Cheesy

)

So why wouldn't a Farmer harvest Camel instead of Cattle?

Apparently the Commercial Process of Camel is just not there.

Lazy stupid Australia more like it.

Actually, Camel is hard to get in my part of the country where I now live (East-South coastal)
There are some places that sell it 'blister-pak' but they charge and absolute fortune basing it as 'Boutique Meat'.

When I was in the Riverina, Camel was easy to get and very cheap.

Camel is not too bad.
But not as tasty as Water Buffalo. That's always sold out.

Camel was very popular as an alternative, last time Meat soared (2011-2014).
But when prices levelled out, people went back to the 'usual' meat.

Saw a 'sliver' of meat for $10 in Woolworths.
Strange how meat in Aust is expensive. USA it is not.

But 'alternative' meats are few and far between. Nice African restaurant in Goulbourn (Freddos) that put Goat to some really good tasting dinners on the menu.
