Have you bothered to look to see if there are any other naturally occurring viruses that have that same trait?

It could be a quite common form of transmission (although with a different payload for something like HIV) since it works, you know, natural selection and evolution etc...

It seems like your opinion is guided more about what you don't know than what you do, which is how you start the journey to discovery but don't let the Dunning-Kruger effect trick you into thinking you're ready to draw any sort of conclusion.

What you're leaving out is the withdrawn paper about a non-peer reviewed armchair study with their unsupported conclusions, that started all of this (just the same way the anti-vax bullshit started with trash science that dullards believed and spawn conspiracy theories around in order to avoid being wrong and have someone to blame for their child's Autism) didn't mention that yes, COVID-19 may have some new additions to it (compared to previously seen coronaviruses), but they’re common bits and pieces found in tons of viruses - not just HIV - and there’s no proof that they even have anything to do with how the coronavirus behaves.

You're focusing on HIV, like the now-discredited "researchers" were because it's a "sexy" results.

They wanted to be first more than they wanted to be right.

It's like the main issues with the mainstream media.

The current hypothesis is that the virus has been around for 1000+ years or more and likely existed in bats.  It then likely transferred from bats to a non-mammal host and then from there, likely to humans.

It's not that video of the guy eating a bat soup...

Much of this is unable to be confirmed currently because the source of the outbreak has been in China where there are issues with access and even reliable information, but is it currently the best hypothesis as to the outbreak.

And also, the death rate is likely nowhere near as high as being reported.

BUT, that's likely because the virus has spread far further than the official numbers state with people who have had no symptoms and haven't been tested, or are simply mildly symptomatic and aren't sick enough to stay home from work or even see a doctor and therefore the infection rate is much higher than we currently know means we're already in a pandemic.

Some of the information we're seeing from China, if you can trust it, supports this hypothesis.

So yay, the death rate won't actually be near 2%.  But, the only way that can be the case is if the infection rate of the virus is much higher than what has been confirmed.

Containment is no longer an option.

But thankfully the virus will likely not be as severe as the fear mongers and clickbait tards are saying.

This won't help those who have underlying conditions etc however.

Containment was never going to work, BUT, what China did has likely bought us and an extra 4 to 5 weeks for Governments to prepare.

I was at the Queen concert on the Gold Coast on Saturday.  It was great, but, this was the stadiums first attempt at a field concert like this and they were unable to cope with that number of people.  There was hours standing in winding lines with less than an arms-length around before hitting other people waiting for a bus to the train station afterwards.

There are lots of things that were not ideal for limiting the transmission of viruses.

While I'm not overreacting or panicking, it's still wise to take precautions.  I put lids on my drinks when walking around etc, washed hands regularly and tried my hardest to keep my hands away from my face, even if using hand sanitizer.

The problem is, it's a Queen concert and that damn Adam Lambert, he's no Freddy but even I was brought to tears in some song.  That man can sing.

But one wipes away tears...

I've also got about a months worth of "emergency food" at home for the family, but we've always had that, rotating the stock out as needed so it doesn't spoil because we live in Queensland and severe storms and even cyclones are the thing.  It's just what you do.  But out was setup over many weeks, not rushing and emptying the shelves like people are doing now.

There is time to prepare, but prepare you should.

There could be disruptions to the supply chain depending on what measure, be they our Government or our trading partners.

But people overreacting will only make it worse.

By all means, be cautious, practice your hand washing, cover your mouth when you sneeze.

But the masks are ridiculous.

They won't stop you from getting it.  They may help you from transmitting it though, so if you think you may have it, wear a mask.

But unless you're also covering your eyes too, a mask is a waste of time.

IN perfect use yes, the problem is 99% use them imperfectly.

dear Mr Sad,
The bat theory is just that - another theory with no proof.
At this stage any theory is worth considering.

Tell me - has the United Nations demanded that China open up
all it's germ laboratories to UN Bio weapons
inspectors - especially the one at Wuhan -
where it all started? - answer no -
it's not even being mentioned.

Iraq had to do so before Gulf War 2 -
why is there a different standard for China compared to Iraq?

It is only the experts best guess at this point, I wouldn't even call it a theory.

Perhaps for one, have you considered that the reason that it' snot being mentioned is not because of a cover-up or a conspiracy, but because it holds no water?

Bill Gates Warns Coronavirus Might Be ‘Once-in-a-Century Pathogen’.

...

https://www.breitbart.com/border/2020/03/01/bill-gates-warns-coronavirus-might-b...

Microsoft founder Bill Gates wrote that the Covid-19 coronavirus is beginning to behave a lot like “the once-in-a-century pathogen we’ve been worried about.” His comments came in a February 28 editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Gates opined that we are now facing an immediate crisis. “In the past week, Covid-19 has started behaving a lot like the once-in-a-century pathogen we’ve been worried about,” Gates wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine. “I hope it’s not that bad, but we should assume it will be until we know otherwise.”

“There are two reasons that Covid-19 is such a threat,” Gates writes. “First, it can kill healthy adults in addition to elderly people with existing health problems.”

“The data so far suggest that the virus has a case fatality risk around 1%; this rate would make it many times more severe than typical seasonal influenza, putting it somewhere between the 1957 influenza pandemic (0.6%) and the 1918 influenza pandemic (2%),” he stated. “Second, Covid-19 is transmitted quite efficiently. The average infected person spreads the disease to two or three others — an exponential rate of increase. ”

The Microsoft founder turned philanthropist said there is strong evidence that the disease can be spread by people with mild cases or even those who are presymptomatic.

“That means Covid-19 will be much harder to contain than the Middle East respiratory syndrome or severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which were spread much less efficiently and only by symptomatic people,” Gates continued. “In fact, Covid-19 has already caused 10 times as many cases as SARS in a quarter of the time.”

How about exclude the usual suspects first then move onto conspiracy theories.

Yes, but not to the exclusion of the most likely.
