Transferring the contract for the Attack Class submarines to Japan from France?  Oh, dearie, dearie, me.  You do realise there are massive penalties inherit in doing that?  The French might get a little pissed off as well.  Japan is not a reliable defence contractor, they have no history of supplying overseas contracts.  This would be their first one.  The Sōryū-class submarine (Ōryū) are inferior to the French Attack class.  It's range is too short for what the RAN wants.   It would run out of fuel far too quickly for what they want to do with it. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Sadly I can’t disprove your claims. An ex of mine ,whose rank and specific skills I need to keep to myself, is involved in this mess as a high ranking member or the Oz navy. My perspective comes directly from him. Simply put, nothing Australian tax payers are being told about the French contract is reliable.
At the presesnt rate of development of the Oz variety by the time Australia takes delivery they’ll be obsolete anyhow. They’ll be of little use unless armed with nuclear weapons.

Not true on either count.   Nuclear matters are off the table as far as Australia is concerned.  Tsk, tsk.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Chinese spies should be hanged in front of federal parliament.
We have to start getting serious.

You do come up with some silly ideas but this one’s a doozy. What do you imagine would happen to Australians working, visiting of living China if you had your wish?

So - what are we doing about all those Chinese spies?
China also attacks us on the internet -
1000s of companies have been attacked.
What is your solution?

Apply the skills of the Dept of External Affairs to encouraging and supporting any Australian industry looking for alternative markets for their products. Slap a massive import duty on all Chinese manufactured goods from companies owned by Australians.
Encourage Australians to leave China as soon as possible but do so without too much public hoo-ha. Expose Australian companies, such as Bunnings, importing Chinese goods for which they negotiated the manufacture of cheap (inferior quality) products for the Australian market.

Increase military preparedness dramatically. (I won’t discuss in which areas here for obvious reasons) Dump the stupid contract for French submarines transferring the order to Japan. I have a long list however there are a number of misguided fools posting here who would stoop low enough to transmit anything seriously interesting I might propose to you know who.

ASIO’s budget also needs a huge increase to enable them to spy on Chinese students studying in Australia. So what if fewer of them come here so long as the Gov’t ceases to strangle tertiary education.

Dramatically increase aid to Pacific Island nations etc..... the list could go on but I suspect my general direction is obvious.

Establish a military equipment manufacturing industry here with the intention of supplying  Sth East Asian nations who can be trusted ( A big question mark there )

Ban Chinese studying  digital technology, science or engineering subjects of strategic value in Australian universities etc. Encourage drug companies to cease relying exclusively upon China for critical base pharmaceutical ingredients.

Ban Chinese nationals or their proven agents purchasing significant rural property and city real estate. If you imagine that’s extreme try, as an Australian, to purchase the major share in any Chinese property and see how far you get.

Provide tax incentives for Australian companies to invest in digital/internet security.

Enough said apart from drawing attention to the shamefull fact China isn’t the only guilty party in all of this. We Australians have been baring our arses to them for far, far too long.
]
Using gay as a slur, eh?
Thank you, Dr Freud.  Shocked

Interesting how in attempting to prove your wisdom some of you fall flat on your face. The expression ‘baring their arses’ originates from the venerable English public school pushishment of baring one’s arse to receive the lash. I’m inclined to suggest you need a few for being a smart arse.
Possibley the confusion comes from a dim understanding of Winston Churchill’s famous description of the British Navy. “The Navy is founded on three noble traditions, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash”

Suuuuure.  Old queens are all Churchillians. Baring arses has nuffin' to do wiv nuthin' in the sodomite community. All about the Navy, innit.
Bit rum, what??

Brian,
from your link:

In an unclassified summary released on Friday local time, four intelligence agencies said with
low confidence that the virus was initially transmitted from an animal to a human.

In a statement, Mr Biden said
China had obstructed efforts to investigate the virus “from the beginning.”

“The world deserves answers, and I will not rest until we get them,” he said.

Only one bureau:

Quote:
believed with moderate confidence that the first human infection was linked to a lab, although analysts did not believe the virus was developed as a bioweapon.

Most agencies involved believed the virus was not genetically engineered.

So, none believe it was developed as a bioweapon and only one believed it was linked to a lab.  Looks like your view is definitely sunk, Bobby.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Markson said she was still shocked by the criticism levelled at her by others in the Australian media over her reporting on the possibility of a lab leak.

“This is a story that everyone said was a conspiracy early last year — the ABC, the Guardian Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald — they all attacked my reporting,” she said.

“And I was just doing news reporting on the agencies and their investigations into the origins of the virus.

“It’s just extraordinary how the media and the tech giants and the scientific community shut down reporting on this, and ridiculed people who were promoting the idea that it might have come from a lab —

a high-level Five Eyes intelligence source revealed to The Australian that while the intelligence community was divided on the source of the coronavirus, the agencies had uncovered little to no evidence to support the theory Covid-19 emerged from an infected animal.

Instead the intelligence source said there was ample evidence the virus leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, but it was all circumstantial in nature.

The Biden probe – the verdict of the 18 intelligence agencies – found a laboratory leak and human exposure to an infected animal are both “plausible”.

The statement released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said that “after examining all available intelligence reporting and other information, though, the IC remains divided on the most likely origin of Covid-19”.

“All agencies assess that two hypotheses are plausible: natural exposure to an infected animal and a laboratory-associated incident,” it said.

It’s possible but as I’ve nagged here previously, China’s suicidal addiction to ‘warm meat’ provides an efficient entry to our species. On the other hand the Chinese may have observed the effects of the original wild strain of Covid on humans and set to ‘improving it’s efficiency’ in the laboratory. Either way the Chinese are putting an enormous effort into hiding the real story.
On the other hand if China is innocent of manipulating mother nature for military purposes their insistence on continuing to support the ‘warm meat’ industry puts all of us at risk without the need for any intervening laboratory ‘improvements’.
A larger puzzle for me is how and why the Western media don’t want to ask the important questions about the origin of Covid. Scared of not being able to sell them iron ore, wine etc?
