Actually, the French only realised half of their defensive doctine in the Maginot Line. Their government refused to spend money on mobile forces to back it, in case it was overwhelmed or outflanked. They paid the price for that... The USA will pay the price for Trump's antics.

You think the expense of Trump's wall stops with the money that Mexico didn't pay?

That's an ongoing drain on the budget that Trump and his supporters don't care about.

But mention the cost of Healthcare, no matter how much it will save in the long run (the exact same excuse given for the Wall) their heads explode.

In 1940 the French navy completely lacked any radar. The device was known but there was no effort to try to develop this technology. The Maginot Wall had metal rails planted vertically in six rows with height 1.40 metres . French military experts extolled the Line as a defensive work of genius . Le Ministre des Armees apologised to the navy.
