I went to the supermarket today and there were no baked beans, I saw someone cough and I freaked out, I am heading back into the bush.

Within every supermarket i have entered recently, i have been able to locate a hygiene wipe dispenser.
It is always located close to one of the entrances.

SUGGESTION;
Take one of these [wet] hygiene wipes, and wipe down the trolley handle [everywhere, that you will touch the handle.].

There is a lot of 'stuff' going around on peoples hands!

Unless they are frequently washing their hands, most peoples hands have pathogens GROWING on them, like open petri dishes!

While I can't stand parents wet wiping down the slide at the park before their kid can use it, even before COVID-19, we should have been wiping down the trolley handles.

I've had to take 5 flights in the last few weeks, every time at the airport I've had to go to the toilet after/before the flight, I swear I'm like 1 of maybe 2 people who actually wash their hands after using the toilet, the rest just fix their hair in the mirror and walk out.

It's bloody disgusting.

I won't try to politicise the issue, but most of them look like they fit a certain mould too...

But poor hygiene is sadly, very Australian.

Yet people in these threads are happy to call people of entire ethnicities dirty...

You haven't traveled much have you Sad.

All throughout South East Asia, India, the US and the UK (England and Scotland).

Many in the more poverty-stricken areas of South East Asia, the people may not have the means as we do, but they at the least don't wear their shoes inside, try to if they have access to clean water bathe before they enter their beds, travelling through their public Transport (discounting India) there is very little BO smell, unlike in Australia.

These countries are in general more respectful of their countries, their people and their family (even if the value of human life may be less).  This leads to people growing up appreciating more what they have and try to make it last, keep it and themselves clean and don't rely on "48-hour protection" deodorant because they bathe more.

It sounds like you're the one who hasn't travelled.

I've been on many aid trips and charity awareness trips, including the Kokoda challenge, not just touristy places.  I've stayed with locals and in 5-star accommodation.

Honestly, if you had travelled on more than like a sex holiday and took a detour off the tourist tracks, you'd get a better idea of our neighbours and just how lucky we are.

It's easy to think we're #1 and we're doing everything right, but boy reality is very different.

It was widely reported.

Wuhan, capital city of Hubei province, has used about 1,964 tons of disinfectant as of Tuesday to sterilize the city's drainage and sewage treatment facilities during the novel coronavirus epidemic.

The city kicked off disinfection work on Jan 29 to prevent pathogens from entering the sewer.

The local water authority established a team of experts to formulate disinfection standards and clarified epidemic emergency management work to ensure the safety of drainage facilities, outflow areas, sewage treatment facilities and maintenance staff.

The water authority also tasked a second disinfection operation for the sewage in some key areas, including designated hospitals, mobile cabin hospitals and temporary renovated schools and hotels to reduce the risk of virus entering the sewage.

"Widley reported", but one state-run source with a questionable reputation.

If it's true, good on them, although it's a little "Security Theatre" to either make their own population feed like they're doing something, the International Community or both.

SARS could survive on surfaces and in feces for up to 12 hours.  So far, and it's still being researched, COVID-19 is able to survive no longer than 2 hours on surfaces and we're yet to have an answer for feces.

I just find it typically disappointing that information coming out of China that those who want to sensationalise the issues and spread fear gets ignored when it doesn't suit their agenda, like the infection rate dropping, but have no issue believing and then sharing information such as fogging in the streets or "disinfecting" the outside of planes (both untrue or totally meaningless when it comes to stopping a virus) when they can use it to forward their agenda.

How much you like what a source is saying has nothing to do with how reliable or trustworthy they are.  It's the same backwards logic, hypocrisy and double standards used to defend Trump and attack his opponents.

I've looked for a second source and at least via English Language websites I've not been able to find any.

My Mandarin is just enough to greet and farewell people, thank them and order certain foods...

Don't shoot the messenger.
The link was in English.
Just because there is a slight drop in infections over the last couple of days don't get your hopes up, there are outbreaks everywhere, I just heard the chief of the WHO on the ABC saying we have a small window of opportunity to contain this virus.

When I saw this news item it came up as one of the main news items of the day, I thought it was out there with drastic measures taken, I don't know how disinfecting the sewer system will help at the end of the line where microbes are used as treatment, the microbes will all be dead.

When you asked for citation I to struggled to find that one link, it was possibly a bit to out there?

As for your Trump rant,, whatever.

The Chinese need to cleanup their act, there have been four major disease outbreaks there in the last 20yrs and we all know why.
