We have had Russian generated fake news prevalent ever since.
Just yesterday we had the seth rich conspiracy used, yes a proven Russian generated story that is known to have started its life with a Russian pretender on a social media site that spread to other social media sites was picked up by the extreme nutso right media till it eventually progressed to Fox fake news.
Even Trump has used it it has been repeatedly quoted here in many topics. The nutso conspiracy theorists among us here still believe that this long debunked fake news is true and still regularly post it in topics. Latest was just yesterday.
There are literally dozens of fake stories just like this out there. Back in 2016 we knew little about what happened and it was credible to say that the Russian influence on the election result was difficult to know.
Today if you look at the known facts it is very difficult to believe that the Russians didn't determine the election result based on the numbers involved.
The focus should be to stop this continuing but the Trump denial , indifference and refusal to act will insure that the Russians get to play an even larger role in 2020.

I would not do what Trump has done and continues to do. trump lined up and said yes please we will take all the help you can give us. This is well documented as what happened.
Bernie told them to bugger off which is better. The US have a cyber retaliation capability.
The things I would do would include standardising the national voting system into a secure model.
Did you know that another leg of the Russian attack against the democrats was to run DOS attacks on the polling systems in critical democrat districts effectively stopping people likely to vote democrat from voting.
It is also notable that the polling data that the Trump campaign gave to a known Russia agent would have been ideal to target the best polling areas in this attack.
Yes the Trump team directly assisted the Russians to attack the US voting system.
