you never know what you'll get in that place. I've never seen it clean. There's always crap all over the place.

Okaaay, I see, but..... there are person to person infections happening.
A week ago the figures for person to person was 100 in Oz.
Have no idea now what it is as number of infected rise.

I received a message to warn against petrol pumps where virus can spread.
To use a paper towel when handling pump.
And still wash or sanitize hands after.

In the theatre at Harbour Town, daughter said they were all wearing gloves and no cash money to be used, only tap and go.
And people were spread well apart with seating.

Another way to spread it, playing cards.
Poker anyone?

we just don't have enough test kits to test everyone

I don't know why they don't use blood tests, they'll show the virus as well.

It would probably be more than 100% accurate with blood testing?
Seems the types of testing used seems to not pick it up many times, sadly didn’t do so for that 14 year old boy until too late 😔

any idea how much blood tests cost lols???.....it could also put extra pressure on the system.....when our system breaks down.... its then time to worry.....in the mean time I am thinking the govt would be getting the BEST advice there is....and are doing their best to contain this....if only our population could get  a dose of commonsense.....I am sure this would stop it spreading in a day. Sad Sad

tooo much to hope for.

Trouble is Cods, common sense is not so common 😔

Daughter just told me this one.

Coronavirus, the only thing China's exported that lasts more tyan a month.   Grin

Wow!  You encourage your children to tell racist jokes.

How much worse can it get.

You bulk-buy & hoard at the expense of the less fortunate, and now you encourage racism among the young.

On top of that, you ignore social distancing rules.

FFS, this country is screwed.

So now joking about the quality the goods a country produces is racist? You extreme lefties are a tough crowd.

apparently blood tests tell us a lot more information. Not only if you have the virus, but it tells us if you've had it. if you have beaten the virus but were unaware you had it because you showed no symptoms. That helps with tracking the spread

Now that’s interesting!
Daughter caught something up on the Gold Coast mid Jan, height of holiday and tourist season!
Flu like symptoms etc.
Only slight elevation in temp. Lethargic.
Cough.
Can’t breath.
4 days duration.
Just before this virus news went viral (pun intended)

Says she felt ill after being in a crowded McDonalds restaurant right in heart of Surfers Paradise.

Odd to get flu mid summer I thought.

I will tell her to go get a blood test to see. Just for peace of mind.

I prefer to think the government is getting the best advice it can get and the best it will allow, all in one.  Any medical advice will be spun through the party centrifuge and homogenised for public consumption.

Irrespective of that,  the doc said (3 days ago) she wouldn't pass the criteria for a test as she's had no confirmed contacts. Ridiculous as they should be testing as much as possible. Either way she's only sick...not SICK so I'm not moving her and our family is self isolating.

You see what’s happening?
This is why we won’t have the right statistics.
Not saying your daughter has the C virus, but this is an example that may be many like this everywhere.
You keeping your daughter indoors away from public is responsible, even if your doctor thinks she has not got the C virus, but that’s a good guess only, and if many doctors do good guesses only, and send people back into society .... this is where maybe, 2 out of 10 sent out with no testing, could have the C virus, and thus.... the spread begins.

Why take a chance?

Anyone that feels unwell should stay at home, for 2 reasons.
1. If it’s not the C virus, and you go out and catch it, then you are more vulnerable because of your prior illness.
2. If it is the C virus and you were not aware, you could be spreading it to others that may not get tested either, thus it goes on like a tag team running amok.

A busload of Chinese tourists, 21 from memory, turned up to GCUH thinking they may have had covid-19 in January, they all had the flu.

Edit: My bad, just went an reread msg. 19 and 5 had influenza A.

Quote:
We've got a group of 19 Chinese Nats. who were in the last flight from Wuhan to Sydney, then to GC to spend the Chinese New year up here. They were all quarantined and only 5 tested positive for Flu-A.

a blood test would be difficult as this is the 5th corona virus so many people may have antibodies and you would need tests a week apart to show a rise...just too slow.

what will kill this epedemis is the ready availability of an on the spot PCR test like they already have for influenza i believe.

you need the same speed of analysis as when people buy a pregnancy test at the chemist.

result in 90 seconds.

then test everyone.

self isolate all positives and its done.

i think this virus is being grossly over estimated because many many people are like richard wilkins and feel well and so dont get into the statistics.

i doubt it is much worse then the flu and think the over reaction has done a lot more harm then good

I'll take her to the doc for a flu test tomorrow, and if she's neg to that we can consider more stongly if she has '19' or not.

BTW, how is GCUH at the moment?

So may reasons for her not to go out.

If she does have a flu, a co-infection of C and 19, even for a very fit 13 year old could be terrible.

If she gave the flu to someone in a high risk category who then picks up C, they're toast.

Now, does anyone begrudge me having 2 weeks of supplies to live off?

Only piggy, it's all he's got. We also have enough food except bread and milk type things for 2 weeks. Even scored a 32 roll pack of TP at Coles yesterday. 32 rolls! I feel like a hoarder now but they were the only packs they had! Grin
