I noticed how slow shelves were being replenished. And as for instance, Coles said 5000 jobs will be available to help, and with all the now unemployed applying for jobs, the process seems slow.
My son’s wife had started last week with interviews and applications with resumes and had 3 interviews already.

It’s Thursday night and still waiting for word of application process.

I think that Coles as an example, are overwhelmed with interviews and applications waiting to be processed.

Hence why extra staff are not employed yet, to help restock shelves, then there is some training surely?

I saw yesterday, 2 young lads, in normal clothes, (not wearing woolies storeroom outfits,) being shown products, trolleys, in aisle, and they were asking questions.

So it is happening, new recruits as extra staff, for a while, maybe nighfill casual as long as needed until.....

I think it is a matter of supply and demand. I can't shake the idea that the toiletries are being sent overseas. But, for now, I think supermarkets are doing a slightly higher supply of toilet paper stocking. But they are not going to overextend themselves by getting any more in. The panic buy should be over by next week.

That's the bs line used to cover profiteering.

At any rate in the current crisis ... the rules of supply & demand should be quashed......

as should any profiteering.  Roll Eyes

Not if your second sentence is right....which I know it was happening last week.
Warehouses in Melbourne and Brisbane full of supplies. Greedy Asians.

Bottom line is Rocky wouldn't have a god damned curlew when it will cease.  Roll Eyes

The supermarket elderly early opening time is being frequented every day by the same oldies buying what they did the day before.

Another level of panic buyers/hoarders being catered to.

I suggested she ring the Mental Health dept as there seems to be no help out there for parents in this situation....in the mean time I asked where does he get the money from to buy this....and he gets govt money my thoughts went straight to this person receiving any stimulus money that anyone on centerlink is going to get..

Do you think they're gonna put it under their mattress?

Or maybe put it in a term deposit?

Or, do you think that money will go straight back into the community?

I'm curious.

I would love to see the footage of Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, or IGA with the focus on the toiletries aisle. I want to see how many times they restock before they get sold out for the day. If they only get stock trucked in 3 times a week, I could understand the store getting sold out over two days before a new order comes in.

I think the idea of supply applies for big name stores, too. They have the demand. But, they are not getting supplied with enough to meet the demand of the customers.

Phark-'eh?

I would not have a clue. I work in a restaurant where we have to expect the unexpected. It is not unforeseeable that people who buy 200 rolls of toilet paper, even if they are doing it for extended-extended families, will eventually satiate their need to buy. There is a thing about having too much of one thing.

Given that we are nearly a month into the panic buying, we are going to see a drop off of demand by shoppers wanting the "must have" item of 2020. Already, locals are seeing toilet paper being reshelved without too much molestation of the grey nomads panic buying at 8am. I have seen a drop off of facebook posts about people whingeing they cannot get things. And locals are noticing that they have restocked the shelves back to near normality.

I will eat my words if I go in to do my grocery shopping and I cannot find toilet paper and/or hand sanitisers in sufficient quantities.

Well - he had prescriptions and had to produce ID to get them... and you don't get that pale and wasted look with tattoos and that vacant mind fighting in Iraq...

I sincerely hope this area isn't being turned into a halfway house... too many oldies and kids around here.  NIMBY, innit?  But, of course, with Winter coming there is an annual influx into coastal towns... warmer you see.... ask any cop.. they'll be bracing for it.

Yes .... that is BS.

The now new unemployed haven't received anything yet .... many are still in the farqing queue ....

& the long term get theirs doubled plus rent assist & family benefits if applicable.

That will be more than what I'm drawing from my super per fortnight after 46 years of working.
