Does anyone have any 4 packs of sorbent Gold silky soft 3ply that I can trade for 10 rolls of Woolies own brand? I might have to go to ebay.

Pssst!  I got some of that good stuff, but I need 20 rolls of Woollies...supply and demand my man... Cool

You drive a hard bargain,, 15?

OK...but don't tell Gordy..... I stiffed him for 25.... Wink

Pssst! Its a deal, meet you out the back of the Woolies car park in 1hr, make sure you don't get followed because people are being stabbed and tasered for this stuff.

I get into my daughters car, to go for a swim at beach, I notice a box of tissues on the back seat, for all to see.
I says to daughter, you know they say if you have something precious in the car to hide it, else someone sees it and breaks in to grab it.
......the way panic is..... your tissue box....
And she laughed realising what I was getting at.
I said I’m serious  Smiley

Well, I have a different perspective from my background in healthcare, as I can understand what the preppers are thinking about.  I would like to say first that I am not one of those hoarders, but still feels the need to stock up if the virus situation gets worse.

Toilet Paper - I can see alot of people making jokes about stocking toilet paper.  It function does not only include wiping off downstairs.  But it can also wipe off sweats, tears, saliva, sputum, organic or non organic spillages, which can become crucial in infection control at home.  Just say, you have an elderly mother, or a young child who is sick with corona virus, and are sweating and coughing.  The best way to rid of those secretion / sweat / sputum or vomit is via toilet paper, and discard.   You cannot flush facial tissues or wet wipes down, and the process of retaining them before discarding creates a chain of infection risk.

Stocking up in general - People stock up, for many reasons.  For example if you have a loved one who is immune compromised, then it is only sensible to stock up in case there is localized transmission of the virus.  And of course, one would never know if suddenly you are ordered to self isolate.  Take for example this article...

https://www.theage.com.au/national/coronavirus-closes-epping-boys-high-school-20200305-p547dn.html

Because of one boy, the entire school was ordered to self isolate over the weekend as the public health official working on contact tracing.  Now, what if one of your family happen to be one of the close contact?  Then the next step would be for testing, and self quarantine for 14 days.  Now, if you dont have any backup, what are you going to do?  Break quarantine?  Get uber eats?  Order coles online?  yeah, may be you can do it now, but what happens when the virus spread, and the delivery workers gets sick?  Call the police?  As far as I can see, the pandemic plan does not include methods on how to deliver food and supplies to the isolated, only how to dob in and lock up those who appear sick into modified stadiums.

N.B. Please please do not kill the messenger, I am merely thinking of other people's perspective which I usually do on this forum.   Smiley

lol... I watched The Project on Channel 10 tonight (yes... yes... I know... more brain rotting rubbish) and they had a story shortly after it started about how bidets might be the next big thing if people can't get toilet paper.

Hilarious stuff.  Grin

After seeing that story I quickly switched over to Friends on Channel 11 after it looked like The Project was going to (once again) devote most of its program to more coronavirus sensationalism and scaremongering.

Lockdowns? The only thing that really needs locking down in this country at the moment is the media.

As much as I don't like Scomo YeahBabyYeah, what can he do about it? Individuals out there have gone nuts about needing to stock up with 3 years worth of toilet paper because they believe that they are going to get the runs for the next few months. Personally, I think that the buying up of toilet paper is just some kind of game for the sake of a fad. The latest "do-it-because-other-people-are-doing-it" phase.

But why did the supermarkets wait until the shelves were empty first?

Even now you still can't buy many essential items -
the shelves have been bare for nearly a week.

Yes.

Turn off the "news", and watch some Netflix.

The party and good times are not over yet.

Did everyone honestly think we would have it so good for so long?
Abundance of food (except 3rd world) cars, smart phones, shopping of anything in shopping centres, and cafe lattes. Etc etc etc
We have become so used to it all, when economic times turn recession, there will be more than toilet paper running out.
How self sufficient and prepared to survive with hunger thrown in, are People?
Is this the apocalypse on the cusp?
So let’s eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die(t).

Pretty much.

We needed to come together long ago and realise that we are all part of the human race.  No lines between all the racial, ethnic and religious slurs you and your ilk use around here.

But instead, things like the internet the should have brought us closer together by erasing the curse of distance and ignorance of other cultures, it basically let the bigots find each other, reinforce their closed-minded beliefs in a feedback loop and gave even the most winey little bitch a voice on the world stage.

But why did the supermarkets wait until the shelves were empty first?

Even now you still can't buy many essential items -
the shelves have been bare for nearly a week.

Because it’s cause and effect.
Who was to predict to know what to limit until it happened?
If the supermarkets were to impose limits on items earlier, it would not have made sense.
It makes sense now though as proved.
How about not being distracted about toilet paper and think how this virus will effect more than just that? Economy collapse?
Reserve bank dropping interest rates to stimulate economy more?
What’s the point when banks have tightened up lending?
We will all just have to learn to adapt and improvise as life about us changes. Can’t have it good all the time, history of life had shown us that.

What comes to mind.....

Tough times don’t last, tough people do.

But..... a virus is not fussy who or what you are?

If anyone bothered to notice, even our own professors, are not saying with certainty how this virus came about, maybe, maybe, maybe.

Not one official is saying it was from bats etc.
It seemingly could have started from there, but none know exactly how.

This virus has been with us for 50,000 years, now it’s changed to effect us?

You all know viruses and strains kept in them labs can be fiddled with?

Milton the Monster, with 5 drops of sinister sauce....
