Amongst all the sensationalism and scaremongering about coronavirus in our paper today there's also a story about people who have driven from Perth to the country town of Harvey over 150km away to buy toilet rolls from the local IGA.

That's a 300km + round trip.

The toilet roll section of the Harvey IGA is now as empty as the ones in all the Coles, Woolworths, IGA's, Aldi's etc. in Perth and surrounding suburbs. Baked beans and hand sanitizers, etc. were also hit hard. The manager of the store said stocks will be replenished soon.

Seriously, some people should not be allowed to reproduce - should have been neutered at birth preferably.

Emailo from coles:-

" As you may have seen, the past few days have been challenging for some customers with shortages of selected items, in particular toilet rolls! For which I apologise.

This is due to increased purchases of everyday items by some customers brought about, in part, by an international media & social media frenzy – which then causes other customers to lose confidence in the system and then buy more themselves. Australia has an outstanding supply chain and most of our products are sourced from Australia including toilet paper.

We're working to re-stock shelves every day to meet demand, and we have agreements in place to increase production of everyday items in Australia if the need arises. We have increased the number of team members in our stores and our suppliers are doing the same.

However, in the short term, we have reluctantly chosen to introduce a temporary 4 pack limit on toilet paper to ensure the elderly and those groups at highest risk can still access the everyday products they need, and to reduce likelihood of bulk purchasing which then appear on the internet at a price premium.

I understand the average 4 person family needs around 20 rolls of toilet paper per fortnight, and larger packs contain around 30 rolls meaning 4 packs would total 120 rolls - enough for around 12 weeks.

We appreciate the understanding and patience of our customers who miss out, and our hardworking suppliers and team members who are doing their best to ensure we are helping all customers.

We appreciate your business and I know that security of grocery supply is a key concern for all Australians. Through the bushfires I also know that Australia is at its best when we all come together to help each other.

Regards & thanks,"

20 rolls?  Jeez - I might use two or three... very disciplined arsehole... and bladder.. I can hold for hours while sighting on a bad guy...

Trolley loads of Kleenex can be left with Westpac or Scomo Canberra ACT. Small pieces may be posted to Red Cross or Dept Defence ( Army Reserves).

"The team at Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service have had to say "please stop" after donations of water and food flooded the station from generous members of the community."

Community halls were packed out with unnecessary supplies , Scomo needs some PR.

Milk. Panic for milk , boost the price, help dairy farmers. You need your milk when you cough and spit germs.

If you buy supermarket brand milks you aint helping the farmer much, only the supermarket.

It was the supermarkets that raised the price of milk and gave 100% of the raise to the farmers. It's basically charity. Not sure how they are going to handle the coming oversupply.

only after they got caught not handing it to the farmers, after having raised the price .10 cents per litre for the farmers drought relief, and were facing a public backlash

Not handing what to the farmers?

Can you give any other example where there is an expectation that retailers pass 100% of a price rise onto primary producers, and idiots thinking they have "caught" something when they realise it is not happening?

So there is only an expectation because coles announced they would do it?

If it is for drought relief, does that mean they stop passing it on when it rains?

The expectation is there because coles (and woolies) said they would raise the price by .10c/ltr with that extra money going towards helping the farmers. Since they raised the price by .10c/ltr specifically for drought relief, i would think they stop passing it on when they stop charging it.

Scomo caused corona with swimming pool panic-building work. In the rush he didn't organise disinfecting the water and now toilet paper  shortages makes them disease traps.  It's up to Bridget and him now to clean up their act. We can't have burnt out bush littered with turds and wipe-sticks.
