Yeah it is an artificial shortage but still a shortage and ppl are feeling it. Telling ppl theres not a shortage just gets ppls hopes up when they try to go shopping

It's semantics...

There isn't food on the shelves because people are panic buying and hoarding creating a "shortage" at the retail level.

An artificial shortage.

There is plenty of food and future food, there is no wholesale shortage.

Many people don't know the difference, nor care if they can get their hand on 10 2kg bags of potato.

Some people like to push hysteria, the sort of thing that leads people to go do more panic buying.

I know this forum is full of dickheads and morons, I just didn't realise how many who would get kicks out of doing that.  Add another fu
ckw
it to the list.

I don't normally say something, but there was a line of 20 people at the Deli at Woolies.  The guy in the front of the line was taken everything.  And I mean everything.

He took all the Chicken breast, all the thigh, all the beef mince etc.  I told him that there are all these other people behind him, looked at the poor 16 year old behind the counter packing it all up for him and asked her to get her manager in a calm and friendly voice as I could.

The guy pushed me out the way, tells me to shut up, he has a family to feed and I thought I'd be on ACA or the video of what would happen next would go viral.

I don't want to throw down over bloody chicken but it almost came to that...

In the end, all his meat was taken off him, he was given enough for a family of 6 for a few nights and then there was some left for everyone else.

You could tell from the tear lines on her face, the 16-year-old behind the counter had been having a bad day and this guy had made it worse.  There are limits on what you can take, but before I got there he must have said something.

It's tough on everyone, but the selfish people like him, arsehole.

I saw him furiously driving around the car park when I was leaving, I assume looking for someone to have a confrontation with.

It might be semantics but morrison is pushing that there isnt a shortage and there is. Changing the meanings of words to serve his own purpose and its giving ppl false information.

Good onya calling that dude out. Myself i havent seen any panic buyers because ive always got there after the shelves are empty. I got a dozen eggs yesterday (there were only 3 left) and some person seemed like he wanted to fight me over them. I think he wanted all 3. He did take the other 2.

When i was a kid (in the 60s) there was a shortage of safe drinking water where i lived because the delivery was late or something. We were told NOT to drink tap water and it was more than 24 hours we had no water. My brother drank from the tap. Ended up in hospital. Lucky it didnt go on longer.

There were always things we couldnt get. Ppl didnt panic and take it all when it came in. In fact im not sure they would have been allowed to if they tried and those ppl that took all the toilet paper in the beginning of this should have been stopped IMO.

I had to do a run today for some friends who are on a flight home now.  They've been stuck overseas in locked down counties on their transit home.

They'll be going into 2 weeks quarantine and their houses are already empty of perishables.

The whole family were overseas for their eldest family members 80th birthday, now they're all coming back to quarantine.

It's been hard to get them supplies.  I'll have to keep going every day with the restrictions in place...

I can only buy for 6 of them, I don't know who else will help out the other 30 over 5 other households.

same here sad.. my daughter has a posting in of all place Laos..shes there with husband and 10 yr old son..govt has sent all bar essential staff back home.
son in law and grandson arrive back today and will go into a rental for 14 days...so we will do the Uber run...as you say  its bad enough shopping your yourself   now its others..if it keeps up we will surely have to bring in a form of rationing.. odds and evens was fine for equal sharing at the petrol pump...... but there is nothing equal about whats going on...went to woollies and not one POTATO in sight...I couldnt help but think it was the first time in my life where there were no potatoes for sale in a supermarket.......

I don't know about you Codsy but I feel really different now about "being an aussie" and all the tradition that supposedly carried. What I  have witnessed in supermarkets in the last 2 months has left me totally disgusted. The worst part. the majority were aussies.  Sad Sad Sad

In your Brisbanes, Sydneys, Melbournes, Adelaide & Perth they've been majority Asian ....

they may be Australian citizens but their behaviour doesn't reflect that.

And as they were doing with Baby formula they are doing with toilet paper.

THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF FOOD OR TOILET PAPER IN THIS COUNTRY

the problem is

how do you get MORONS to believe that? Angry

Go to a supermarket & prove that.

There is a problem with logistics & supply .....

therefore there are shortages.

Otherwise there wouldn't have been a national whinge from so many about not being able to get what they need.

PASTAS & NOODLES, TINNED FOODS, MEATS & MINCE, FROZEN FOODS, CERTAIN FRUITS & VEGIES, TOILET PAPER, TISSUES, PAPER TOWELS, CEREALS.

It goes from one item to another every week.  Angry

You can't - they're morons.

They don't listen to reason.

There was never going to be a problem regarding grocery supplies, but now the greedy & selfish bulk-buyers & hoarders like Gordon have created one.

Personally, I think anyone caught hoarding should be charged, and their stash should be confiscated and redistributed to those who need it.

Looks like supermarkets are the only ones making any money lately.

I had to go into Perth City for the first time in a couple of months yesterday for a couple of appointments.

In between appointments I sat in the Hay Street Mall for a while and I was astonished at the lack of people. Was almost like a ghost town. Murray Street Mall was the same.

It really struck me just how bad it must be for a lot of the smaller shops at the moment - all of these shops are open and no-one going into them. I saw staff members come out the front doors from time to time to see how many people were around.

I went back through the Hay Street Mall at about 1:15pm after my second appointment and things looked a little better - no doubt due to the city office workers on their lunch breaks but it probably went back to being quiet after 2pm.

I really hope things start to improve for the shops real soon.

I took the attached picture in the Hay Street Mall just before 10am.

Same blood-lust - one of the most appalling things about capital punishment is that the intended victim is helpless in the whole thing - that's the same as any victim.  Cold-blooded killing of someone helpless... shocking reflection on the human psyche.

Haven’t been able to get potatoes 🥔 the last couple of times out but we will see today...

But i have a plan B..

There is NO shortage of potatoes... just supply and demand due to the hoarders...

In our region we are About half way through potato harvest...

I know of three different farms that sell potatoes on the side of the road..

So if you are one of the folks that need potatoes... look for the Potato farmers in your region and go for a drive... they’ll have TONS of them...  Smiley
