My elderly mother always had flu shots, then she would have a cold and sniffle for a couple months after.
My daughter in law and I discussed it. She point blank asked me if I get the flu shot.
I said I never want any crap injected into my blood, expecting her to oppose it, yet she felt exactly the same, says her elder sister gets the flu shot then is always sick after.

Years ago, I would get the flu and would be ill for a good week or two.
I changed my diet, less dairy, less meat,      less bread,     less processed foods, no sugary drinks, less sugar, more vitamins and minerals, and fresh foods. More water with a dash of lemon.
Now if I get a flu, it lasts from beginning to peak to end about 4 days and not bed ridden, albeit I do feel lethargic, so I rest more.

I must have done something to help my immune system cope better and have milder effect.

Particularly as one ages, they say we should get the flu shot, but haven’t to date.

Should I worry?

Many years ago, before the advent of the internet, I read how 7 day Adventist’s would live approx 20 years longer than the average person, due to their meat free diet and other dietary reasons.
It’s actually very interesting.

Seventh-Day Adventists live longer and have 30% lower cancer risks compared to other Americans thanks to the religion's strict diet and lifestyle practices, study finds. Seventh-Day Adventists have a lower cancer risk and a longer life expectancy than the general US population, a new study suggests.Nov 27, 2019

I omitted to mention in Reply #28, but i also i rarely eat bread or pasta [or rice].

Bread, is a very 'heavy' food for me, so, as i say, i rarely eat it.

Seeing as the thing that kills people is the cytokine storm, I'd say it's much more likely it's one's immune system that is the problem rather than just lung health. You may have diminished lung capacity and have no/low effects from the virus like most people. If you have diminished lung capacity and your immune system goes haywire it may compound the problem but it's the effects of the immune response that kills, whether you smoke or not.

Setanta,

I hope that it is a strong immune system which will prove to be the protective factor.

COVID-19, reportedly, is another form of 'influenza'.

When they come around, i never get colds or the flu [influenza].

Never.

Want to give your immune system a very quick boost ?

BEGIN THIS, RIGHT NOW.....

Try fasting until noon each day [i try to only drink black tea or water until noon - i don't drink coffee].
.....and don't eat anything solid after about 6.00pm.

Try to avoid eating processed foods - nothing out of a can, nothing out of a packet.

Try to eat mainly foods with lots of water in them [e.g. veggies and fruit].

Works for me.

Why nothing out of a can?

almost certain it will run wild thru OZ at some stage.
we may well have a vaccine by then.

the difficult thing will be

who gets the hospital bed?

the 60 yo with a really bad case who is otherwise healthy
the 60 yo with a really bad case who is an obese smoker
the 80 yo dementia patient from the nursing home.

and if they run out of beds, those are tough calls.

even tougher if people start needing the limited ICU beds.

what if a 20 yo and an 80 are both needing icu and the 80  is a touch sicker.
thats tough.

and do you kick the 80 yo out when 60 yo arrive in cas who are at the same level of sickness

I can report that nursing home residents and their families are being encouraged to discuss their end of life plans in case the virus results in the rationing of the ICU beds,   In the event of an outreak, nursing homes would need to isolate infected residents, stop visitors, and have 'care in place' rather than hospitals and encourage 'end of life planning.'

Sad Sad

I guess, its survival of the fittest.

I've been helping some of our clients with better ways to contact families and anyone nominated for their patients to get quick and effective information out to them, including this.

It is survival of the fittest, in a way, but they're more so (at least in my experience) taking additional precautionary measures because their residents are at greatest risk of the virus, like most viruses.

Why nothing out of a can?

1/ Possible additives.
2/ What is in there, is no longer 'fresh' food,      i.e. everything in a can is DEAD [hopefully !!!].

Enzymes are 'facilitators' in extracting nutrients and 'goodness' from the food we eat.

Enzymes are [i beleive] more functional, in working on fresh or 'live' foods.

[veggies - i eat them lightly cooked, and sometimes uncooked. ]

Yeah.

He doesn't serve death as the racism he cowardly posts to an anonymous online forum is just that.  If he starts targeting people and actioning his hate, that changes things a little.

Data for today, provided by Johns Hopkins University.

Italy            confirmed infected... 9172            dead.... 463

death rate = 5.04%

That is quite high, i believe.

I think the death rate from the Corona virus in China was about 4 to 5 percent of those infected. With all the experts reassuring us, I have not seen any prediction of what the death rate will be here. Three things that might work in our favour:

1) A more organised and informed response will slow the spread, perhaps to the extent that less lethal variants will spread first and give us immunity.

2) Better medical care will keep people alive.

3) Better hygiene and less cramped living conditions will also slow the spread.

I think we are being saved at the moment by warmer weather, but we may get hit hard when winter comes. I get the impression the US is fairing much better than Europe, which may reflect some of the factors I listed above. The more anti-social a society, the better it is protected from this sort of thing.

3 months into the process and we have no response at all.

The testing you could count on your fingers and toes.

We have the virus in the community with no attempt to identify or quantify it.

We are setting ourselves up to be one of the worst affected, simply all the things which may minimise the impact we are not doing.

In all likelihood we will not know there is a problem till way too late.

We are not better in any of these things than Italy - have a look at their numbers.

Australia three wickets down and all well past the half century and settled in for a long innings... each of the three was going for a century but missed by that much!

First wicket - 78
Second wicket - 95
Third wicket - 82......... and Australia is 3 for 253 at the tea break.....................
