The President should always a majority
Mar 15th, 2020 at 9:02pm

In a presidential form of government, the worse thing is to have divided government where Congress is of one party and the President is of the other. This form of divided government is paralyzing and erodes the faith of government in the minds of the people.

The best way to ensure smooth and efficient government is to guarantee a majority to the President in Congress. The most effective way of achieving this is to allow the President to appoint one-third of the total number of seats in Congress. Given that enough people would support the President's party in congressional elections, the one-third appointees would effectively guarantee a legislative majority for the President.

This makes sense, given that the President was elected to implement an agenda. By having members appointed by the President, this would give more support to the President and for his/her policies.

Auggie,

You are mistaken [re OP].

And you are intellectually 'unhinged'.

That is just my opinion.

Not at all, Yadda. At least no more than you.

We accept the government and the House of Reps being of the same party in our system, so why should it be different in a presidential form of government with a bill of rights?

I think proposing better ways to govern is less 'unhinged' than proposing that we lock up all Muslims and their children.

Auggie,

Instead of proposing 'improvements' to government, ....in places like the U.S.A. and Australia,
why haven't you proposed ways of improving the governing of places like Sudan, Somalia, Turkey, Pakistan, et al ?

Hmmmm ?

Too 'close to the bone' for you, your own bone ?

Because drafting a new constitution in those countries isn't going to do anything to help them; whereas in America and Australia it will.

Auggie,

But you could propose improvements, to governing,      ....in places like Sudan, Somalia, Turkey, Pakistan.

And if your friends recognised what 'a good idea' your suggestions were,
well, perhaps they [persons within those nations] would be inspired, to try to enact your suggestions.

Why don't you lobby the peoples of those failed [or failing] states ?

Those are places, in particular, which would benefit out of all proportion, to the benefits of tweaking the political systems in places like the U.S.A. and Australia !

Them's how the votes fall..... sorry 'bout that... if there is a lame duck it's for a good reason behind the voters and their thoughts...

You seem to love any form of absolutism..... as if there is a Divine Right of Elected Government... in a democracy such a thing is anathema... it may work in China and Russia etc, as far as it does work - it wouldn't work here.

You are discussing here one of the reasons the common people are pushing for change.... the current system is not doing its job for the people, but is working for the parties. It is not actually acceptable..... it just is.
