Just like the GFC again

Privatizing profits and socializing losses

Nothing like the GFC

These shutdowns with companies that were making a profit happened because the government ordered them to stop.

Would you prefer Qantas continued to fly in and out of China and around the world so they don't go broke?

The government should buy them out, partially or wholly, keep them running till the panic is over, then sell them off.

or, if they're profitable, keep them and use the profits to help balance the books

The idea is not to sneak back towards socialism. Just to ease the crash.

Thats your idea, not mine

You are confused. I suggested selling them off. You suggested retaining ownership.

When the government orders businesses to shut down due to the Kung Flu then the government has some responsibility in keeping them viable for when we're over this Kung Flu pandemic.

Are you going to boot out those imaginary tenants you have in your imaginary rental property if they can't pay the rent due to losing job in this crisis?

Excellent question, Baron. Do landlords kick tenants out when they can't afford to pay the rent?

Does China owe us for spreading their Kung flu?

These are the questions of our times, no?

Sounds like you believe in a range of social and political methods applied to different circumstances.

How cunningly spineless of you, FD. Do you know what you are?

You're a pragmatist.

We are gradually getting rid of them, because we are not socialists. Except for the odd one who leaps any opportunity they see for the government to start running businesses again.

Wow.

Suggesting big corporations should go to the wall?

How many more thousands of people would be out of a job then?

If you lose your job in a recession, it is really hard to get back into the workforce afterwards.
