Well - I trust the Government -
they will of course delete all the data
when the crisis is finished.  Embarrassed

Deputy Chief Medical Officer doesn't rule out forcing Australians to download the Government's coronavirus tracing app

Updated yesterday at 5:56pm

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly has not ruled out making the Government's coronavirus tracing app compulsory for all Australians.
Key points:

Paul Kelly says app will be voluntary at first
Government needs 40 per cent to download app for it to work
PM says downloading the app a matter of 'national service'

The app will use data from people's phones to tell health authorities who has been in close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case, and who may need to be tested.

The Government has said 40 per cent of Australians would need to sign up to the app for it to have enough data to function properly.

The app is called TraceTogether and uses Bluetooth to create a record of other nearby phones that also have the app.

But it does not track people's location.

The Government has said the data collected by its tracing app would be highly secure, with
only health authorities allowed to access it after a positive case was identified.

The Prime Minister said this week that Attorney-General Christian Porter is in the process of making sure relevant privacy safeguards are in place.

I've always liked that line... 'Nothing to hide'...

So, no issues with the app identifying when you're speeding?

No worries about getting a slew of traffic tickets for 'amber light' infringements, or (god forbid) travelling too long on a freeway in the outer lane...

And if you think 'they'll never do that!'... Never underestimate the human instinct for control over others' behaviour.

Even the Singaporeans didn't like the idea of it.

As a matter of fact.

Some years ago, the RTA grubberment lapdog.

Was looking at using black box data from your vehicle to download vehicle speed at every registration.

Any speed over the legal limit would be fined and added to your fee

It was only rejected because they couldn't work out the logistics to pin the fine on an individual, and it could be challenged in court.

But, ill bet pennies to pounds that this idea has not been discarded.

And with this app, it's just one step closer.

Trust the grubberment?  .........only if you are stupid.

And Carl says : "Go bugger yourselves" (I did have another word there with asterisks but the word censor changed it).

As I said earlier, my mobile phone is only turned on if I have to make a call or check for messages.

It is prepaid so it is never connected to the Internet and has mobile data, location, etc. turned off permanently in the settings.

Might be time to buy one of those 'seniors type' phones with big buttons that only do calls and SMS. I'd better get in early because I'm predicting these might be the next big panic buying item.

Failing that, I'll be taking the SIM card out of the phone and destroying it and then removing the number from all places where I've used it for contact purposes like Centrelink, Google (for Gmail), etc.

Then it'll be landline only, I still have one of those. Try tracking me with that.

1984 has finally arrived even if it is 36 years late.

Best of luck with that BS

Even if you did download ... doesn't mean an individual would use it.

You might .... because you're paranoid about everything.

Yeah, and if you'd attended to your own matter of 'national service' and shut the borders down in January when it was obvious even to Blind Freddy that this virus was about to spread worldwide instead of being more worried about the economy then none of this BS (business closures, lockdowns, tracking apps) would be necessary.

Sure, airlines, airports, tourism, etc. would have been badly affected by a January border closure but guess what? They're still being badly affected now along with everyone else with business closures and the million+ job losses not to mention the billions the Federal government now has to spend in an attempt to fix all this mess.

I'm not one for believing in conspiracy theories but the longer this goes on with lockdowns, card only transactions and now tracking apps one can't be blamed for starting to smell a rat... although plain government incompetence is still the #1 candidate for me so far.

As I said.... go "bugger" yourselves.
