It is to help Australia control a deadly virus

Does anyone here doubt there is a pandemic?

No. The virus isn't a hoax.

But governments (including our own) are apparently taking advantage of the situation and using it as an "excuse" to try and bring in '1984 style' societies.

No, I won't be.

But every night I've been writing ina journal as a sort of mental health upkeep, started just before COVID-19.

I find it to be, for me, a beneficial practice.

Got the idea from here,

Anyway, as part of that I have a list of anywhere I've had to go and anyone I've had contact with including dates and times from google location tracking so if ever I do get infected, I've got the list ready to give to whoever needs it.

But I don't even like Google tracking me, let alone the Government, Liberal Coalition, Labor, Greens whoever they are.

The only time I may be OK with this sort of tracking is if people in mandatory quarantine because they have been infected need tracking to make sure they don't leave their house, but you can just go without your phone etc...

Let me stress, "may be ok with it".

It would require some actual thought first.

Yes they are.

But its not that politicians are particularly 'Dr Evils'...

It is the fundamental nature of all governments to collect data on its citizens, be that by censuses, departmental collaboration and international collaboration.

Any opportunity to improve the efficiency of data collecting is almost never unconsidered.

Which is why, if even for nothing else, democracy is essential to the protection of the powerless against the powerful.

Its not a cliche for no reason that 'speaking truth to power takes courage'...

Democracy (and a free media) gives senior politicians cause for pause before they react on their (very human) instinct to find out, more efficiently, what 'the people' are up to.

And don't think politicians admire whistleblowers (no matter what their public rhetoric would have you believe), they despise (and fear) them like a virus and take every opportunity to ostracise and extricate them from the state sector wherever they're found or suspected.

The Leader of Qatar does the same thing to his people. They are all monitored and manipulated. It is a very 'controlled' state... and if you dissagree with your leaders - then its off with your head.

You cannot lose a chip when you want to.

OK, good. Phew.

I think there has been a leap of cause and observation here.

Aussie and NZ has been largely spared due to our isolation and actions from our Governments.
Europe, the UK and the US are faring much worse than us. I accept the reports from there as being reasonably accurate and true. Their economies are seized, they are having many 100's die daily. In the future many of the health workers will have serious mental issues.

I dislike the constraints I live under. It is really hard of me. Most days I cry.
To avoid what has happened overseas and on the results of our politicians decisions I will do what they reasonably ask.
An app on my phone so they can track any future outbreaks I see as being a very good idea. Not just reasonable but a very good idea.

Putting a conspiracy theory on the decisions of a government who are successfully quelling a pandemic is fraught with serious risk.

This is not a game.

How about those that want to be tracked have it....and those that don't want to be tracked don't have it.
Hey that's a great idea. And if old scumbag Morrison doesn't get his 40% quota then the country has spoken.
Saying he will make it mandatory on a device that you own and pay for is just dictatorship so go fkkk yourself Scott. You and all your cronies are frauds. Overpaid scumbag frauds.

Perhaps the people of this great nation need to have government employees tracked. That's a better idea. We need to know where they are at all times...who they're dealing with and what they are saying. No secretes from the public.

The technology is already there for us to be tracked...however it is illegal to do so by the authorities because you haven't given them permission to do so. This app solves that problem. Also...trusting the government is like giving a dog a bone and expecting it not to eat it. They lie everyday to gain votes.

Wait till 5g is up and going. I will not have a phone when 5g comes in and 4g is no longer available. There are ex installers, designers etc all trying to warn you now of the dangers. Yet no one is listening. The gov sure isn't going to tell you.

With hindsight there are many things which the government could have done better, however at the moment it seems to be handling the crisis as well as can be expected, therefore I don't think a tracking app is necessary. Unfortunately if too many idiots believe that they are special and the rules currently in place don't apply to them the government will have its excuse to go ahead with this Orwellian plan.

I'm interested though, in how a mandatory download could be enforced. Any of you more tech savvy people have an idea?
