I've posted that twice ... yet the shareholder quotes here get wilder & wilder.

Should have bailed them out in exchange for equity.

They wanted taxpayers to cough up $87,500 per job.

Shocked

with the bail out they could demand some restructuring.
our domestic routes are some of the most profitable in the world. Eventually we would get out money back and then some

Good post and questions. Why should the taxpayer support this airline.

Because without them domestic fares will triple or more, domestic tourism will stall and the economy take that much longer to recover.

Better take a stake in the company and keep it going.
Lol, where do you get this stuff from.

Exactly.

They might not triple, but they'll double for sure.

you seen what quantas charges FIFO when flying to or from areas where there is no competition? What makes you think they'd give a poo with other destinations when you have no choice?

you were whinging about $5 for water on the flight, good luck flying if jetstar goes.

The best plan I've heard so far is to let it go into receivership and restructure their dept, allow the chance for private investment and only then if required the Govt can buy equity which can then be sold down the track.

Enjoy the new service from China Airlines:

I hate to point this out to you, given you've been spamming this comment throughout the thread, but "China Airlines" is a Taiwanese airline, not mainland Chinese, so quite the opposite of a mainland-owned communist-backed airline that you were probably looking for.

I've flown them, they're quite good.

The airline you were probably looking for was "Air China", which used to be CAAC ( Civil Aviation Administration of China) and was the communist Chinese flag carrier until it was split into multiple airlines today (of which air China is one)

I have flown China southern and that flight was pleasant.
Flown China Eastern and was awful.

One thing about those interstate Chinese flights within China, running late by 2 hours seems the norm !

I had always used either Jetstar or Tiger for all the interstate flights.
Prices very competitive and way cheaper than Virgin.

Last year, flew to Singapore business class on Jetstar.
Was an amazing $800 on special whereas other airlines were double that.
I was wrapt, crossed off bucket list going business class.👍

Alright - you don't need to be pedantic.

China will look with great interest to
be our 2nd carrier.

I am a kind of prophet  -
that is my prediction.

I also predict that China will buy up the whole
tourist show:

hotels
motels
resorts
zoos
clubs
casinos

all while the prices are dirt cheap.

All jokes aside  - zoos are losing a fortune right now.

They are excellent buys for Chinese businessmen.

Of course  - the Chinese  will buy assets
using shelf companies in offshore tax havens
to hide the true owners.
