future predictions after the virus
Apr 22nd, 2020 at 12:04pm

I predict :
Overseas air travel will get very expensive and result in much larger demand within Australia for domestic travel. This will have a knock on effect in places like Bali which up to now have relied on overseas tourism.
Social isolation will not cease but become a part of our culture, many more people will work from home and online ordering of goods and services will increase substantially, many bricks and mortar retail businesses will go under and commercial real estate will suffer considerably.
Shopping malls will be forced to reinvent themselves as entertainment complexes in order to survive.
Casinos will go broke, cant see them surviving.
Anyone else?

Breakouts will be controlled.

You might find that people will be reluctant to go back to how things were.
Most will have found a new window of opportunity to work from home.
A whole new Economy will be found, that doesn't require mass transportation.
Nations will be more 'self-sufficient' and not need to import/export as much... especially in regards to all things Chinese.

Most of all - there will be WAR after the Virus.
The Military and Political industries need to recoup their losses and 'force' people to invade overseas.

Cant see that at all. Look at whats happened to the price of oil for instance, this is a once in a lifetime black swan event which will change the whole worlds economy forever. Exactly how I am of course only making semi educated guesses but massive change is inevitable. I also predict a lower standard of living and an increasing casualisation of the workforce. Contract labour will be in our childrens futures, not full time jobs, they will disappear completely.

A lot of self evaluation will happen/is happening.

No doubt some more robust types with drive will strive to get it all back to normal.
But financially, people are feeling the pinch and won’t spend as much, which is probably why.... governing bodies want to make it cashless (due to many not having jobs, or money) and introduce all to have debit/credit cards to help with an increase in personal debt to keep the national debt low, and keep the whole economy buoyed.

Those that have been stood down in jobs, will feel devalued, and won’t go back to their usual job?
Maybe a percentage will due to not having a choice regards to work situations.

Yet there will be more open work opportunities for others that found it difficult to find work initially.

I think overall, some negatives will become positives for others.

For instance, (and as an example,) our little online business for car parts has boomed last couple weeks! I would say it’s all local buying from Aussie local trades now.👍

Now that’s Aussies helping Aussies, it’s a win win really.
A bit like keeping it all in the family, within our own boarders.

Now price hikes and price drops will happen!

So far I have seen products on supermarket shelves rise!
I have seen other shopping items in large department stores cheaper than ever. And Aussie online shopping stores with big discounts too! Throwing in free shipping and/or returns.

Petrol prices dropping.

Electric cars will be the next thing to encourage spending.

I feel real estate will drop a lot more.

Interest rates will stay low, thus, why our government are borrowing the billions as it’s a good time to borrow with low interest rates, and why not?

Exclusive foods  usually for restaurants are now being offered to the rest of us!
It’s a bit like Christmas! 🤗

I wonder, what will prices be like when we go back to have a meal in a restaurant? I’m thinking it’s either way it could go.
Perhaps cheap deals at first to entice and get people back in the habit, then prices will climb.

The pokies will never go bust, in fact it will open up and they always make money, besides, online gambling had increased hugely since all these closures! Forgot what the  percentage stats was, but it was a huge hike!

I’m hoping people have taken up hobbies or generally doing neglected home repairs.
When my daughter goes for  her power walks, she sees a lot of home maintenance going on 👍

Not sure how picture theatres will go after this? People will be used to staying home watching Netflix now.

Anyway, predictions are guesswork. Some hits and misses along the way.

I do worry there will be a lot of shops and diners/cafes that may stay closed for good.
After all, there were signs of many empty shops already occurring before all this c-virus event.
Oh and travel.... not so much overseas as usual, and there will be huge discounted offers to entice.
I think more travel within our Aussie shorelines are the go 👍 beautiful country to explore.

Maybe not immediately, but eventually most thing will go back to how they were.

Some businesses may continue working from home, but most will go back to how we were.

Restaurants and pubs will go back to business as usual. People are dying to get out now after a few weeks, they're not going to lock themselves away indefinitely when they won't have to.

Online shopping has been increasing for years, that will continue, although at a slightly elevated rate.

Schools will go back to in the classroom.

Shopping centers started reinventing themselves years ago into entertainment precincts. That will continue although at a faster pace.

Agreed
The Spanish flu was worse than this and everything went back to normal after that.

Once this is over, if anyone so much as sneezes in China the worlds media will have a melt down

I think to travel overseas you'll need a lot of medical
documents and tests and some countries may demand quarantine.

That could still be in force forever.

After all - animals can't come to Australia without going through quarantine.
We accept that yet people are more important than animals.

I even think some countries may be off limits to travellers for a very long time, years even. Some of these Asian countries have zero chance of containing the virus and it may take a very long time before its reasonably safe to travel there. I tend to think Bali is kaput, their focus on the future will be on internal tourism which will lead to the Islamification of the island as it has in other previously non Muslim areas of Indonesia.

I agree..  we had already reached a crossroad. many jobs falling by the wayside......huge chages being made and many were very hard to accept...just look at Banking as one example...

this is a huge opportunity to transition other industries.....at the same time it has shown us NEVER let yourself be dependent on one nation when it comes to manufacturing.......we need to look at being self sufficient  and even turn back the clock... for instance do we really need imported tinned food...??? its just a question   but everything we import seems to mean our own manufacturing goes....

Yes, we were talking about that the other day. And this kissing and hugging crap when you meet some female socially. All good in my book.  Ive always thought its a risk touching other people, never know where they have been or what they have been up to. They reckon one of the reasons the virus spread like wildfire through Italy was exactly that, all the men and women are hugging and kissing each other at the drop of a hat.
