Sons of Anarchy -- antihero television show
Apr 28th, 2020 at 11:08am

My father told me that his watching of Sons of Anarchy was more like watching a show about bikers riding around, getting drunk and getting into fights, rather than anything entertaining. I had started to agree with him. I got into the fourth season of the series.

Seems to me that the focus is on one family who consist of a lone son, a mother, and a step-father. All part of a biker gang who do little more than act all antisocial and try to promote themselves as bad ass. I forget much of the storyline, having not seen the first two seasons since last year. But, it turns out that the first season features "Jax" who has to redefine his priorities, when his girlfriend is getting close to the birth of their child. But she has a problem with a heroin addiction.

At some point, the child of Jax is taken as a revenge for the death of some other rival's brother. The child is taken overseas to Ireland (whether northern or republic, I don't know) and is adopted by a good family. Murders take place. Bombings, the whole hoo-ha. It all gets resolved with a lot of innocents losing their lives.

Having gotten to this point of the series, I feel like giving up. I understand the allegation that the show is an allegory for redemption and sacrifice. I can see that in the storylines. But, if a storyline like this was given more credibility, you would have Homeland Security onto the SAMCRO gang, and they would be doing more than 14 months in prison. They would be pushing up daisies.

Are there any fans of this show out there? Please limit your responses to up to season 4. But, if you wish to spoil the show for me, I won't mind. I will be done with this show by the end of next month. Do you think the storylines could have been bettered somehow?

I watched about two episodes and gave up. An utter waste of time I thought.

I just checked - yeah, Foxtel.

Season 1 is available on DVD, in store at JB HiFi.

Season 2 is available online, from DVDLand.

I had only started watching the SOA show because of 5 years ago. I was entertained with a couple of later series episodes, watching with my friends. It had that guy from Gotham in it.

When the video store shut down, I had to go and grab as many tv series as I could. I think the shows were being sold for either $5 or $10 per season. So, I got the ones I could. Someone sold me the last 3 seasons for $20.

It is getting a bit much with watching a show that does not really interest me. But I will keep at it until the end. I will probably watch "The Wire" after this SOA series is finished.
