What's with your focus on the ID? Does the US government dictate who is an official journalist and who is not, and this licence is some kind of permit to wander through a police operation to subdue a riot? Is that really what this is about?

And who do you think they mistook him for? Do you think the police go out and get warrants issued before arresting people in the middle of a riot and mass looting?

You tell me. Afterall, you were the one pretending they were arrested because they weren't wearing anything to identify them as journalists

And no, the us govt. does not dictate who can be a journalist ... but press passes can grant journalists access to otherwise restricted area ... like behind police lines during an operation. It situations such as riots, they can be used to instantly tell police that you're ok and have a valid reason for being there. FYI. Press passes are usually issued by local law enforcement.

No I wasn't. Do try to keep up John.

How does a "press ID" clearly identify anyone if it is just something dangling from your trousers that people make for themselves?

they're issued by local law enforcement FD. I've already told you that. And it wasn't just dangling. if you'd watched the video you would see he was clearly holding it out to several officers to see.

Did this journalist have a police-issued press ID?

So you lied. Again.

News organizations generally issue their own ID cards that identify employees

Back to the issue at hand. You appear to acknowledge that he was dressed unusually for a talking head representing a major news organisation. Can you think of a more plausible explanation for why he would dress that way?

You don't need handcuffs to arrest someone -
especially not a reporter who is being compliant.

All arrestees are compliant, until they aren't. The place was literally burning down around them. If there was ever a time to use handcuffs as a matter of course, that was it.

no, I did not lie. Rather selective of you to bypass everything else in the link and cherry pick one comment

It is important to realize that you do not need a press "credential" to take pictures or cover events in public places (streets, parks, sidewalks that are not closed off to public access). You do not need government approval to work as a journalist, although it may be beneficial to obtain a “Press ID” or an official government-issued press credential for other reasons. Press credentials
related to news coverage
are usually issued by law enforcement agencies.

Another CNN reporter says he was 'treated much differently'

CNN's Josh Campbell, who was in the area but not standing with the on-air crew, said he, too, was approached by police, but was allowed to remain.
"I identified myself ... they said, 'OK, you're permitted to be in the area,'" recounted Campbell,  "I was treated much differently than (Jimenez) was."

The crew's arrest is a counterpoint, CNN political analyst Bakari Sellers said, to anyone who says, "All you have to do is comply; all you have to do is use your nice inside voice, and the police will leave you alone."

"We have a white reporter on the ground, and we have a brown reporter on the ground. They are a block apart. The brown reporter is arrested and the white reporter is telling us what's happening," Sellers said.

"We saw a reporter who is educated, who is brown, who is doing his job better than anybody ... (who) was in harm's way, letting the American people see what's going on, on the ground. He complied. He said he would move. ... You almost have to laugh not to just be furious."

Sure, but he probably had the right press pass.

Ask FD for the details.

Come on freediver.  The man dont have a weapon, and was not acting suspiciously .  He has clearly identified himself before the attempted arrest.  He has two other persons with him, with a big camera, and a microphone.  All three of them were clearly not participating in looting or rioting.  What reason can there be to arrest him?
