Nasdaq hits 10,000 for the first time ever, fuelled by Apple, Amazon

The Nasdaq composite index briefly traded above 10,000 for the first time ever Tuesday before slightly paring some gains as tech stocks continue to rally as investors bet on their strength amid the economic reopening.

The tech-heavy index rose as much as 0.7% to an all-time intraday high of 10,002.50, a key level for the index. This year, the Nasdaq has led the major US indexes in recovering from the coronavirus-induced market meltdown – it was the first to erase losses year-to-date, and the first to surpass its February high.

A number of big tech companies hit all-time highs Tuesday, fuelling the Nasdaq’s record gains. Shares of Apple surged nearly 4% to a record high on reports that the company will use its own processors in its Mac computers. Amazon shares also gained nearly 3% Tuesday to an all-time high.

A slew of other big-name tech stocks also outperformed Tuesday.Facebook jumped nearly 3%, while Netflix rose 2.4%. Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices surged 5.7%, and Nvidia gained nearly 3% at intraday highs.

The S&P 500 index and the Dow Jones industrial average both slumped on Tuesday, falling 1.2% and 1.5%, respectively, at intraday lows. On Monday, the S&P 500 also erased its 2020 losses.

The Nasdaq is up nearly 11% year-to-date.

So basically what you're saying is, these indicators that you've already been so proud about for Trump have no relation what to ever to what the actual people experience?

These numbers are great, all time high!!!! But like, unemployment is huge, people are dying from the virus, there are protests and riots in the streets, but the Nasdaq!

Don't worry about all those things, the Nasdaq!

You've basically just destroyed the one thing you had left to support Trump about exposing that it's been just another con all along...

Well done, you've done more damage than any of your detractors ever could.

Strange. I remember Mr Trump promising to be the Prez for MAIN STREET NOT WALL STREET.

I remember him promising to do all sorts of things to the Establishment, remember?

SHAKE THEM UP. MAKE THEM PAY. DRAIN THE SWAMP.

What happened?

This doesn't make sense. I can understand a few tech and health stocks going up, but COVID has put a genuine dent in real values. Even the S&P 500 is only 3% off it's maximum ever value from earlier in the year. I'm predicting another tumble before the COVID thing is over.

I suspect that all the quantative easing (money printing) is pushing the prices up. Phony money and is causing inflation.

There is still much uncertainty on the street because of our mad comrades doing their best to destabilize.

Who's buying them?

Oh, hang on, aren't they being subsidized?

Whoever would have thought they'd be buying back their stock rather than paying their employees' wages?

You?

That's not what I'm saying at all petal.

We know right now the US is a dumpster fire, much like the rest of the world, but we're still seeing record numbers for the Nasdaq etc.

That just means it's a garbage indicator of what is actually happening on the ground and with the people, and has been for Trump's entire Presidency.

Sadly, another huge own goal for Mech.

Dow Jones was down 1%.

Which basically shows at the moment the whole thing is volatile. We'll see ups and downs.
