You mean like ketchup or Worcestershire?

no, that's sauce

anyone with a modicum of common sense would know the difference Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Anyone with a sense of humor would know that I was joking!  Grin

If you can't see that someone with a large disposable income is more likely to donate than someone without - there is no point in debating.

So why does Myanmar, one of the poorest countries in the world, top the global giving index?

Don't answer that, dear. If I was you, I'd keep hiding.

in a proper meritocracy, people work their way to the top and then they look for the next paradigm which consists of philanthropy and mentoring the next set of entrepreneurs.

what capitalism has to look out for (and america seems to have become "wilfully blind" to some of this
is
that you cant have brokers at lehmann brothers making millions fleecing mortgage bonds whilst a welder from arkansas with a mortgage gets made homeless.
that isnt meritocracy.
the meritocracy has become corrupt.

but people are FINE with inequality as long as there is a fair chance for all.

no one hates the winner of a lottery if it is conducted fairly.

and entreprenuers like, say Jobs, who made the iphone.
most people think he deserves the rewards.
noone thinks Micheal Jordan doesnt deserve his billions. poor black teenagers save up to buy his nike shoes , happily

what a meritocracy needs is "equality of opportunity"
good schooling for all kids and then let the cream rise.

so, pour cash into education.

but the leftie universities are also corrupt.
smart aspiring black students are pushed into the humanities and end up with an enormous debt to the instiotution and poor job prospects.
how can you be an entrepreneur if you have a 6 figure debt and no health care.

there is lots of stuff that can be done to make the meritocracy fair but in the end a meritocracy is the only system that works.

you WANT the best plumber, massage therapist, IT nerd to be paid more then the worst.
it gets rid of the people who are rubbish at what they do.

and most people should be able to identify something they are good at.
like my illiterate mate who drives and excavator and owns 7 houses.
he climbed the meritocracy of plant operators.

trying to produce equality of outcome is catastrophic and wont work.

are we going to have 50 % female bricklayers?
50 % females joining the pipes on the deepwater horizon?

just give everyone a fair go.
drop the identity politics and let people find their niche

Because they have the richest and poorest people, Rich, but then, you never did specify the type of nation.

Australia's 3rd on the list. Why does it donate more than richer nations?

You won't say, but it's a frivolous argument to begin with. You can't measure how much people in a particular country give away, only how much they apply tax write-offs to.

There's your incentive, Rich: people give to charity to avoid paying tax.

So why's Myanmar number one?

Oh. You won't say.

quotas, affirmative action, removing earnt wealth from the more competant and giving it to the less competant?

Where does that happen? As we've seen, 63% of wealth is passed on from parent to child. Apart from parents, who's giving jobs or funds to the less competent?

well there is a law suit in the USA brought by asian applicants to universities who have been excluded (despite having better grades) to make way for quotas of african americans

now if you have higher grades, i define that as "more competant"

Been excluded from what? Black scholarships?

No, dear, I think I should be able to pay for whoever I want to study, including my own children. No University in America is denying anyone tuition who can pay, I'll guarantee you that.

But here you are talking about equality of opportunity. I thought you were frowning on equality of outcome. All an education gets you is something to put in your mind and on your resume. We call that an opportunity.

You were about to tell me about the world's best scientists and financial wizards being denied jobs and contracts given to dumb black yokels instead, now weren't you?

But you couldn't find any evidence of that, now could you?

That's okay. We're all friends here. You can admit it.

You could find any evidence to support your argument at all.

You?

Common sense comes with experience, knowledge and a sound mind.

Anyone with common sense would understand what the word 'source' meant.

Sounds like you're going for a socialist uptopia.

That's a meritocracy.

if we are talking equality of opportunity, a society would be insane not to support that.

but equality of outcome?
quotas, affirmative action, removing earnt wealth from the more competant and giving it to the less competant?

very very bad ideas

Where does that happen? As we've seen, 63% of wealth is passed on from parent to child. Apart from parents, who's giving jobs or funds to the less competent?

Er, don't answer that, dear.

well there is a law suit in the USA brought by asian applicants to universities who have been excluded (despite having better grades) to make way for quotas of african americans

now if you have higher grades, i define that as "more competant"

you ?

You?

is race taken into consideration for admission to a university in OZ?

what about Harvard ?

Sorry, are you asking if race is taken into consideration to deny you admission to a university in Oz or Harvard?

I don't follow.
