Sure, but Sprint's on a roll. Don't confuse him.

That was the most eloquent post he's made here in years.

If you can't see that someone with a large disposable income is more likely to donate than someone without - there is no point in debating.

So why does Myanmar, one of the poorest countries in the world, top the global giving index?

Don't answer that, dear. If I was you, I'd keep hiding.

in a proper meritocracy, people work their way to the top and then they look for the next paradigm which consists of philanthropy and mentoring the next set of entrepreneurs.

what capitalism has to look out for (and america seems to have become "wilfully blind" to some of this
is
that you cant have brokers at lehmann brothers making millions fleecing mortgage bonds whilst a welder from arkansas with a mortgage gets made homeless.
that isnt meritocracy.
the meritocracy has become corrupt.

Sounds like you're going for a socialist uptopia.

That's a meritocracy.

if we are talking equality of opportunity, a society would be insane not to support that.

but equality of outcome?
quotas, affirmative action, removing earnt wealth from the more competant and giving it to the less competant?

very very bad ideas

Where does that happen? As we've seen, 63% of wealth is passed on from parent to child. Apart from parents, who's giving jobs or funds to the less competent?

Er, don't answer that, dear.

well there is a law suit in the USA brought by asian applicants to universities who have been excluded (despite having better grades) to make way for quotas of african americans

now if you have higher grades, i define that as "more competant"

you ?

Been excluded from what? Black scholarships?

No, dear, I think I should be able to pay for whoever I want to study, including my own children. No University in America is denying anyone tuition who can pay, I'll guarantee you that.

But here you are talking about equality of opportunity. I thought you were frowning on equality of outcome. All an education gets you is something to put in your mind and on your resume. We call that an opportunity.

You were about to tell me about the world's best scientists and financial wizards being denied jobs and contracts given to dumb black yokels instead, now weren't you?

But you couldn't find any evidence of that, now could you?

That's okay. We're all friends here. You can admit it.

You could find any evidence to support your argument at all.

You?

is race taken into consideration for admission to a university in OZ?

what about Harvard ?

Sorry, are you asking if race is taken into consideration to deny you admission to a university in Oz or Harvard?

I don't follow.

harvards admission policy assesses race as one of the characteristics determining admission.

is that a good idea ?

i would put it more that

"those who are successful in business CANNOT display the characteristics of
being intolerant, aggressive, destructive, criminally inclined, immature and selfish."

if you run a small business , are a self employed professional or tradesman then your earnings would be demolished if you behaved in such a way.

as such . being self employed forces you to a higher level.

now if you are on welfare, an activist , a university student, a public servant or a trade unionist,  you dont have the same pressure on you to act at a more altruistic paradigm.

so you dont have the pressure of society keeping you on the straight and narrow.

and you can then drift into these lower behaviours.
and you probably will.

and then you have to rationalise to yourself your anger and destructive desires.
and the easiest way to "let yourself off the hook" is to pretend that you are angry and destructive because you are standing up for the oppressed and various victim groups.
you probably have never met one.
doesnt matter.

i doubt most lefties on here have met an african american. a transgender, a homeless person , a refugee.
they are just the pawns in the self deception.

so much better to be a noble self actualised self employed person, loving the sting of competition in the marketplace, being driven to provide the very best of service to your fellow man and being rewarded for your efforts.

then you can just feel awesome and you have no need for these lesser behaviours

No, Harvard assesses race for scholarships. It does not, and nor does any university in Australia that I'm aware of, exclude anybody from applying to study based on their race. If they did, you would see class action lawsuits like you've never seen before.

But I'm curious. Are you saying university entrance is skewed in a way that discriminates against rich whites?

And are you saying that this facilitates inequality of opportunity?

Cheers.

How unlucky can you get: A Transgender African american refugee who is homeless. Spin is right I don't think I ever met one of those.

We are not talking about 3rd World nations. There are a hundred reasons for this.

You tell us why!

Because they have the richest and poorest people, Rich, but then, you never did specify the type of nation.

Australia's 3rd on the list. Why does it donate more than richer nations?

You won't say, but it's a frivolous argument to begin with. You can't measure how much people in a particular country give away, only how much they apply tax write-offs to.

There's your incentive, Rich: people give to charity to avoid paying tax.

So why's Myanmar number one?

Oh. You won't say.

Does Myanmar donate more to other nations than say the US?

Does Fiji donate more than Australia?

Does Ethiopia donate more than the EU?

Of course not! They don't have the economic muscle to do so. Its a silly argument anyway. Especially since Joe's giving Ukraine 1.5 Billion for his revolving door bribe.

Karnal self righteously thinks that the rich should give the poor money. No doubt echoing his/her own economic circumstances. Much of the lefts psyche of victim-hood springs from the scarcity mindset and laziness. Sucks to be poor - eh!
