when they starting talking diversity, they are talking equality of outcome
(the outcome being admission to harvard),
not equality of opportunity (those with the best grades get the spot)

Thats not evidence you know.

The university president says the aim is to create diversity.

Asian students with higher SATs then African American students miss out.

Students are chosen on the basis of race, not test scores, so that diversity can be constructed.

Whilst we're on equality of opportunity at Harvard how about that kid at the Frisch School whose GPA and SAT didn't merit entry but  got entry based on his dad giving them $2.5 million as a gift

Shouldn't have got in.
Corruption of the meritocracy.
Wicked stuff

Indeed. But you're arguing that we should have equality of opportunity.

So unfair, is it?

if you want to have the most prosperity, you make sure things function on a hierachy of competance.

for academia...that means the most brainy get the spot....period.

why would we exclude africans or women or gays and lesbians from any aspect of society if they were the most competant.

if a black muslim transgender is the best neurosurgeon...thats who i want removing my kids brain tumour.

but i dont want harvard medical school using race or daddys cash or sex or skin colour to determine who gets trained as a neurosurgeon...that corrupts the ideal of the market capitalist system.

favouring african americans is a sin of the left
favouring rich kids is a corruption of the right.

the left see many hierachies as hierachies of power.

that can be because rich people are trying to cheat.
thats where the capitalist system needs to "pay attention" and make sure all hierachies are hierachies of COMPETANCE.

and if you are Warren Buffet , the most competant stockbroker and a trillionaire, we should applaud you and study you
and if you are micheal jordan the most competant basketball player we should applaud you and study you.

we shouldnt give a short fat kid who cant play basketball the same ribbon for "participation" as micheal. that corrupts the hierachy.
the short fat kid has to go find his niche and climb that hierachy .

thats way way way above your pay grade to assess.

its one of the pronlems with the leftie intellect.

most lefties probably wouldnt be able to develop a functional relationship with their partner and their kids.
yet they think they can take to the street with placards and announce their broadscale plans for social change.

"abolish the police"

really, they really think that they have the intricate knowledge of the workings of the ENTIRE society and that they could usher in some utopia.

how about a little humility

The Left's position is summed up by a suitably... er... diverse little elf:

https://twitter.com/OrwellNGoode/status/1272258721532518400

The intelligent response, sure to be ignored:

The black community that is behind Black Lives Matter is frequently wrong… They make terrible arguments... [But] if you contradict [these terrible arguments] then it must mean that you don’t think black lives matter… and that’s not how science works… If a person says, “Two times three equals a chicken,” that person is wrong. I don’t care how trans they are. We have to have the ability, inside of a free society, to treat each other as equals.
And if I can’t tell you you’re wrong, you’re not my equal.

Aquascoot, American universities exclude all students who can't pay hundreds of thousands in fees. If you can't afford to study, you don't.

There goes your best marks case. Your next trick will be saying people with the most money should go to university - period. You watch, you'll make just that case.

Now rather than me chasing you around calling your krap, just say that. The kids with the richest parents deserve to go to uni, get the best marks, get the best jobs and make the most cash. You can then say how unfair it is that rich white guys like Mr Trump don't get MORE opportunities, so unfair.

Chop chop. Stop wasting our time complaining about equality and just join us in a jolly old chuckle.

Er, you don't think black lives matter. You despise them. You're the one who invented the term tinted. You're the one who calls silly old K a dirty Paki Bastard just because.

Now we all know silly old K's a second generation Scottish immigrant who GREW here. And we all know you're a half-Kraut cheese-snorter who FLEW here. Your yeah-but-no-but excuse for sheer hypocrisy is "correlation-not-causation": Niggras, Boongs, PBs and assorted tints are hideous people who should be excluded at all costs: banned, carpet-bombed and SENT BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM.

We know this because that's what you say, dear boy. So stop playing the no-speaka-da-English victimhood card and admit it. You flew here, you think you're ENTITLED to be here, and even silly old PBs like Karnal should be BANNED and kept off your streets.

Say that, old boy. You know you want to.

Oh, I see. So Aquascoot's confusing scholarships for admissions. Just as I expected.

Here you were thinking he was dumb enough to think American universities are open to all the poor huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

I don't think he's that dumb, dear. He might not be able to post a link, but I'll have you know he's perfectly capable of just making stuff up.

I wouldn't know dear, I was taking issue with your claim that "American universities exclude all students who can't pay hundreds of thousands in fees. " with an emphasis on all by using italics. You're not denying you said that are you? Perhaps just trying to sidestep it?
