Trump Told China To 'Go Ahead' With Prison Camps, Bolton Alleges In New Book

President Trump told Chinese President Xi Jinping that he endorsed Beijing's now-infamous archipelago of prison camps for minority Uighurs, John Bolton writes in his new memoir, The Room Where It Happened.

The former national security adviser quotes U.S. officials who took part in Trump's meetings with Chinese counterparts and their interpreters; the U.S. president said he thought building the camps was "exactly the right thing to do," Bolton writes.

Trump generally has been silent in public about China's treatment of the mostly Muslim Uighurs, who are subject to an Orwellian program of surveillance and repression. Roughly 1 million people have been detained without trial, subjected to "reeducation" and other harsh treatment.

Trump's support for Xi's program is one of a number of revelatory allegations Bolton makes against Trump in the new memoir, one that details what the former national security adviser calls the president's transactional dealings with world leaders that went beyond those in the Ukraine affair, for which Trump was impeached.

Bolton was "astonished" by the cynicism and "chaos" he saw within the White House under Trump, he writes.

He said they were hoping to stop the book from being published. The reporters pointed out to him that it had already been published, but Barr refused to believe it. I'll see if I can find the clip.

Yep, you betcha. Very cool, very legal, all of that.

He also describes a summer 2019 meeting in New Jersey where Trump says journalists should be jailed so they have to divulge their sources: "These people should be executed. They are scumbags," Trump said, according to Bolton's account.

That's right, Trump said journalists should be executed, according to Bolton.

They tried to stop the release. Sure there are 1st amendment issues, you know, that thing the Right only care about when it suits them, so they went after the proceeds Bolton would earn from the book.

Seems like he released it anyway, even if he doesn't get anything for it. That just shows that he wasn't in it for the money.

I don't like Bolton, but it seems like he's finally found it in his best interests to blow the whistle.
