428 new cases in Melbourne today -
we're doomed.

It's an exponential increase in Melbourne.

Could be heading that way here in WA soon, as well.

If the footy doesn't do it, idiots like this certainly will:

South West woman charged after breaching COVID quarantine order and attending party

https://thewest.com.au/news/coronavirus/coronavirus-crisis-partygoer-charged-aft...

Quote:
A South West woman who recently returned to WA from Victoria will face court after flouting coronavirus quarantine to attend a birthday party.

Police allege that on July 11 the 29-year-old Eaton woman “attended a birthday party and socialised with a number of people, many of which were elderly”.

The woman had flown into Perth from Victoria on June 30 and was issued a 14-day self-quarantine direction.

West Australians returning from interstate are not required to go into hotel quarantine if they have an address in WA they can quarantine in.

She was directed to quarantine “within her suitable address”
.

Huh? why are people returning from interstate still allowed to 'self isolate', Premier McGowan? Even Blind Freddy knows people cannot be trusted to self isolate whether they're from interstate or overseas.

Sheesh!! *bangs head against wall*.

Oh, and I've lost count of how many planes I've heard taking off from Perth Airport since 7:30am (its now 3pm here). Presumably, nearly the same amount have been landing from the other direction even though I can't hear those.

Good thing the borders (interstate and international) have been closed for the past few months or they might be overwhelmed with potential COVID-19 carrying planes. Roll Eyes

I’m shaking my head in disbelief at some of these stories coming out RE: how lax some situations have been.

And all those footy players have left (more like escaped) Victoria, with their wives/partners/kids on tow, all landing in the Coolangatta airport, how wonderful.... oh you wait Queensland! Are they to go into 14 day self isolation??  Or are footy players exempt from Covid and restrictions?
That’s it, leave your all your fans behind!

Memo to Qld: Don’t blame the rest of us Victorians staying here doing the right thing during lockdown. Just remember, them footy players are all yours now, we don’t know them anymore 🤨

I can't believe all these people in WA (including our West Australian newspaper) are getting all 'agitated' about the possibility of the AFL Grand Final being played in Brisbane and not Perth (assuming it even goes ahead at this stage but I'm sure it will).

If it is held in either Brisbane or Perth, will the State governments allow "exemptions" for thousands of fans to travel interstate to attend the game? If not, I can just imagine the tens or even hundreds of thousands of 'normal' exemption applications being applied for to visit "sick relatives" for that weekend in the State where the final will be played. Roll Eyes

Well, at least if the Final does get played in Perth and travel "exemptions" are allowed for fans, the airlines can rip off Victorian fans coming to Perth for a change instead of the other way around (the airlines always jack up their fares for Grand Final weekend and I imagine it'll be a bigger ripoff than normal this year).

The same idiots who have been calling for things to get back to normal, pretending it's just a flu, have been crying about not easing restrictions fast enough, have in some cases been knowingly trying to circumvent travel bans or isolation rules, have been ignoring social distancing guidelines at supermarkets etc, have been going to restaurants and bars, to the footy games etc are the same idiots trying to blame Dan Roll Eyes

I see no chance whatsoever of containing COVID-19 while this sort of BS continues.

Victorian FIFO worker allegedly broke quarantine, flew straight to Pilbara mine site

https://www.perthnow.com.au/news/coronavirus/coronavirus-crisis-victorian-fifo-w...

Quote:
A second person in as many days has been charged with breaching coronavirus quarantine after flying to a Pilbara mine site shortly after his arrival in Perth from Victoria.

The 49-year-old Geelong man, who The West Australian reports is a contractor for an Australian mining giant, arrived in the State on July 3 and was directed to self-isolate “within his suitable address” for a fortnight.

But police alleged the man ignored the direction and instead flew direct from Perth to a mine “in the Pilbara district” and began working without completing the required quarantine period.

Quote:
It comes after police yesterday revealed a South West woman who recently returned from Victoria would face court after allegedly breaking coronavirus quarantine to attend a party.
In that case, police say the 29-year-old Eaton woman flew into Perth from Victoria on June 30 but on July 11 “attended a birthday party and socialised with a number of people, many of whom were elderly”.

When will governments get it through their thick skulls? Trusting people to self isolate DOES NOT WORK!!! Unless governments (both State and Federal) start taking this seriously we are going to end up like the United States. It may already be too late.

And now it seems that the idiot FIFO worker from Victoria who skipped quarantine to go straight to work here in WA has tested positive. Great.

Our Worst Australian  Tongue newspaper has made a front page headline out of it today, of course.

VIC OUTBREAK HITS PERTH

Must be trying to outdo their infamous
YOU WILL GET VIRUS
effort from late March or early April (they will probably print it again soon with the way things are going).

Meanwhile, in other news here in "No Worries WA" I noticed that the childrens' sport was back on near IGA in Kooyong Road, Rivervale when I was up there a while ago.

...

Didn't look like there was much in the way of social distancing going on there but I'm sure if I'd asked anyone they'd probably say "Oh, that's OK, the virus is under control here in WA".

As long as they all feel OK the next morning (like the crowds at the footy at Optus Stadium Thursday night) there's "No Worries".  Roll Eyes

https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-victoria-cho-says-217-new-cases-a-...

Victoria's 217 new cases

of COVID-19 have been described as "a relief" compared to yesterday's record-breaking increase of 428.
Victoria's Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said the numbers are a positive sign.
"Certainly a relief to someone like me who has been watching the daily numbers for six months. 217 is much better than a number above 400," said Professor Sutton.
