Victoria's 217 new cases

of COVID-19 have been described as "a relief" compared to yesterday's record-breaking increase of 428.
Victoria's Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said the numbers are a positive sign.
"Certainly a relief to someone like me who has been watching the daily numbers for six months. 217 is much better than a number above 400," said Professor Sutton.

Better than 428 but who knows what the future holds?

I remember many days not long ago when there were zero cases.
It somehow got out of control.
At least it's better than places overseas like Florida USA
where they get 10,000 new cases per day -
yet their population is smaller than Australia.

That's because the US, and Florida, are governed by lunatics who keep telling the public that the virus is a hoax.

As I mentioned earlier.

Two new COVID-19 cases recorded in WA

https://thewest.com.au/news/coronavirus/coronavirus-crisis-two-new-covid-19-case...

Quote:
WA’s hard border has been pierced by the Victorian COVID-19 outbreak after a 45-year-old West Australian man who had returned home from the eastern state tested positive to the virus.

The case is the first time an interstate traveller has been allowed through the hard border and tested positive to the virus.

It was one of two new WA cases overnight, the other an international traveller, for the state as Health Minister Roger Cook announced Victorians arriving in WA would now be placed in mandatory hotel quarantine effective immediately.

About time. Should have been done ages ago the same as overseas arrivals. But, why stop at Victorians arriving? It should be mandatory for everyone at this point seeing as the outbreak has already spread to New South Wales and possibly Queensland and South Australia.

"Hard border" Grin

Someone on another forum posted yesterday that he'd seen lots of cars with Victorian number plates in northern Queensland in the past week and was wondering how they'd managed to get that far if it turns out they were fleeing Victoria's lockdowns?

(Well, if the virus does end up getting out of control here in Perth and a large part of WA the government can now blame it on the idiot FIFO worker and the stupid woman who both wouldn't stay in self quarantine at home and not blame it on the footy crowds we had on Thursday night and again tomorrow).

anyone found deliberately breaking quarantine rules, or anyone deliberately trying to circumvent border restriction, should get a mandatory one month jail. No excuses.

There's a shyteload ... & I've heard of none of these desperate border crossers being taken to task by authorities or being dobbed in by concerned residents.

They are in QLD in their droves.  Angry

They've stopped quite a few but I wouldn't be surprised if for every 1 that's been stopped another 2 have gotten through.

https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/queensland/victorian-fined-after-alleg...

Quote:
A Victorian man allegedly trying to enter Queensland for a third time is the latest person to be hit with a $4003 fine under the state's border restrictions.

Third time? WTF?

Quote:
More than 600,000 border passes, which remain valid for only one week, have been issued since July 3.

600,000? Again - WTF??

Quote:
On Thursday, police erected 700 metres of "more robust" barricading on the NSW border at Coolangatta in an effort to keep out those entering the state illegally.

More than 43,000 vehicles have been intercepted since last Friday and 1150 vehicles have been turned around.

Unbelievable is all I can say. Might need a permanent wall built before too much longer.

I know ... although authorities are trying to stop them. I've heard of many cases where they are stopped at one border crossing, so all they do is drive further inland and try again. What a load of croc. Throw them in jail ... in NSW. One month per attempt. They'll soon get the message

Having a beer yesterday arvo with mates at a pub where they had a visit from the Covid Police on friday night ...... the regulations had been stiffened up ....

one bloke whose niece lives near the Tweed Heads Bowls Club told him they couldn't get out onto the main roads because traffic was backed up for kilometres at the border checkpoints.

We'll all be back in lock down the way things are heading. Angry

From what I'm hearing, delays at the border are 30 mins minimum, up to 1.5 hrs.

they should just temporarily move the border crossing further south (Banora Point seems to be the preferred location) so residents of tweed don't have to sit in a traffic jam every time they need to go out the door. It would greatly improve traffic flow and limit the size of the queues.......... but NSW police have ruled out such a move

and more stupidity

Quote:
More than 60 people were partying at the house at Nottingham Street in Schofields when police arrived just before midnight following a noise complaint. The maximum number of guests allowed at a home is 20 people under the Public Health Order.

...........

Police intend to issue up to 60 people with $1000 COVID penalty infringement notices for breaching the health order.

About half the crowd left when the police arrived, while 30 people were arrested for refusing a move-on direction. Police plan to issue them with separate $1000 fines for failing to comply with police directions.

Victoria reports 363 new cases,
masks mandatory outside.

https://www.afr.com/politics/federal/warning-for-nsw-20200719-p55dcq

Victorian premier Daniel Andrews said there are 363 new cases today, three new deaths. Two men in their 90s and a woman in her 90s have died.

Of the new cases, 36 are connected to known outbreaks and 327 are under investigation.

The premier announced that people in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will need to wear masks when going outside during lockdown.

The new rule will be enforced from midnight Wednesday and a $200 fine will be issued for those caught not wearing a mask.

"If you are out of your home for one of the four permitted reasons, then you need to be wearing a mask or a face coverings.

"It need not be a hospital-grade mask, it can be one of the handmade masks like I was wearing when I came in today. It can be a scarf," the Premier said.

The state has 2.5-3 million masks on order, with the first batch of 300,000 due to arrive this week.
