Melbourne records highest daily new cases in Australia

By Sumeyya Ilanbey

Victoria has recorded its highest daily coronavirus toll since the start of the pandemic, with
484 cases overnight
, multiple sources tell The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.

Its previous high was 428 cases on Friday, with numbers consistently in triple-digit figures for three weeks as the state battles a second wave of the pandemic.

Victorian health authorities will provide an update at 12.30pm.

I think they have been expecting the numbers to reach the 500-600 mark. We're only about a week into the new lockdown so we won't be seeing any effect from that for at least another week.

If we can keep it levelling off at about 500 for a while, we will be doing well. We can realistically expect 1 or 2 deaths per hundred infected.

I think one of the biggest problems we face is the delay in people getting testing results. For some workers it is 2 days but for most people, it is now a 6 day wait.
That is, 6 days off work & the whole family confined to the home, even though they may be feeling well and most likely don't have the virus

No wonder so many are just not telling their workplace that they have been tested or are popping down to the shops.
The Vic government needs to bring in more people from interstate if they have to, to analyse tests so it is a 2 day turn around for everyone.
People will probably self isolate & miss work and pay for 2 days, but 6 days is expecting a lot.

Most Victorian coronavirus carriers not isolating after falling ill, getting tested

An alarming new analysis conducted by the Victorian government shows nearly nine out of 10 residents did not self-isolate upon experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Why am I not surprised?

Have they figured out an honest way to test for covid yet?
I mean....they're not still using test kits that give positive returns for paw paw juice are they?  Grin

I would go easy on dan or any other politician.

A good book to read is general Stanley mccrystals book on the fight against al Qaeda in Iraq.

Al Qaeda were like this virus,

Hid in the community
Lightning fast
Opportunistic
Adapted
Popped up anywhere.

Mccrystal was trying to fight the war using the largely bureaucratic American military .
And he was getting nowhere.

He recognised micro management could not work.

He eventually got his troops in and said they would have to take

" extreme ownership " and " total personal responsibility " for fighting the war as individuals .

And then they overcame the enemy.

To overcome this enemy, using big slow bureaucracies won't work.
There will always be a delay between the person getting tested, the test result , the bureaucracy following up, people being notified.
It won't work.
Not when it is super contagious from the minute you get symptoms.

What will work is " extreme ownership" and " total personal responsibility"

It's on YOU to fight this on the front line by paying attention.

In as much as we look to politicians to solve the problem, we have been defeated before we even begin
