"An anti-masker who refused to comply with coronavirus rules allegedly gloated about pulling out a clump of a policewoman's hair after smashing her head into concrete.

The 26-year-old female Victoria Police officer is recovering at home after suffering a concussion in an alleged attack labelled "fundamentally disgusting" and "shameful" by Premier Daniel Andrews. She and her partner approached a 38-year-old woman who was not wearing a mask about 5pm on Monday at a Frankston shopping centre.

The shopper was asked for her name and warned about a $200 fine, police said.

Instead, she allegedly dragged the young officer to the ground before smashing her head into the concrete multiple times, ripping out some of her hair in the process.

"That's someone who thinks they're above the law," Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said.

"They're not wearing a mask, they're approached and asked the reason why not and then to react like that is just completely over the top."

Victorian Police Association secretary Wayne Gatt described the woman's actions as "reprehensible" and "not human-like", alleging the woman added insult to injury amid the attack.

"The offender had a clump of our member's hair in her hands and said to our member 'what's it like to have your hair in my hands' or words to that effect," Mr Gatt told reporters in Melbourne on Tuesday.

"Most in the community would hear those words and go ... hold your head in shame.

"That's a horrible way to treat first responders on the frontline of a pandemic."

The alleged offender was taken to a police station, charged with assaulting police, recklessly causing injury, two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, two counts of resisting an emergency worker on duty and refusing to state her name and address.

She was also fined $200 for not wearing a mask and bailed due to no criminal history.

The woman will face court at a later date.

The police officer suffered significant head injuries and was treated at Frankston Hospital before being released.

A photo posted to Twitter by police shows the officer sitting in a chair with her head tilted down and messy hair.

“This 26-year-old Constable returned to the station concussed and missing a clump of hair. Because she asked someone to wear a mask. She and many others are sacrificing their safety for our safety,” the caption read."

They should have shot her.

As expected.

'Absolute idiots': Disbelief as panic buying returns to supermarkets

https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/food/absolute-idiots-disbelief-as-panic-buying-re...

Quote:
Panic buying has returned to some Melbourne supermarkets as residents of the Victorian capital begin their first week under Stage 4 coronavirus lockdowns.

A series of new photos, many taken on Tuesday morning, show empty shelves in the meat and fresh produce section of several Woolworths, Coles and ALDI supermarkets.

The alarming images come despite repeated calls for shoppers to buy only what they need.

Quote:
Shopper Sam was frustrated to find the meat section of Woolworths in the Melbourne suburb of Mentone empty on Tuesday morning.

“People are just absolute idiots,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Everyone’s been told 100 times if you just shop normally the food will remain on the shelves. Panic buying just adds to more stress you fools.”

Correction: "People are STILL just absolute idiots"

And, I'll bet that (once again) the panic buying will eventually spread all around Australia. Just like the virus probably will, unfortunately.

Might be time for wartime type ration books soon.

Can't see any mention of toilet paper in the story so that's a change, at least.  Roll Eyes

I had to go driving today in Melbourne for a medical appointment.
( allowed under the regulations)
No sign of any lockdown -
the traffic was heavy -
many people were in the street with no masks on.

What lockdown?

Hmm, the Premier of Victoria seems to think the lockdown (well, the curfew at least) is working well.

Victoria's premier shares photos of empty Melbourne streets as residents obey curfew order

https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-victoria-premier-daniel-andrews-sh...

Quote:
Victoria's Premier Daniel Andrews has shared a series of haunting images showing the city of Melbourne deserted as residents obey a strict curfew.
Mr Andrews captioned the photos with just two words: "Thank you".
The seven images were taken from traffic cameras in various places around Melbourne.
They show the city's streets empty as millions follow some of the strictest lockdown measures in the world to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The eerily quiet locations include Punt Road, the Eastern Freeway, Flemington Road outside the Royal Children's Hospital, Tullamarine Freeway and the Royal Parade.

Looking at the wet road in that picture, I'd probably want to stay in lockdown as well. Mind you, I wasn't too keen on going outside the house yesterday here in Perth either... it was freezing.

I thought the compulsory mask wearing would have had an effect by now.
Instead the numbers have got worse!   Angry

Many people are not obliging. Police sometimes have to smash car windows to make the people take the test.
Still many refuse, because the USA gives them a 'right' to.

The cops will smash your car window if you don't wind it down.
That sounds very brutal.

It sounds effective and protects the general public from intentional spreaders.
Australian Cops know how to handle the people, unlike Yank Cops.
Vast majority of Australian Populace support the Police and their actions. Premiers on the other hand.  Roll Eyes

jesus bobby,

this thing is obviously SUPER CONTAGIOUS.

doubtful this can be stopped.

delaying tactics seem the only possibility.

if they develop a very effective vaccine, then that may be a partial fix.

but in all honesty, i cant see a vaccine stopping many australians getting this.

if its as good as the fluvax (about 60%) that still leaves 10 million unprotected.

at 700 a day that will take 15 years to work its way thru the population , even with lockdown like the stage 2 victoria had.

a grim situation ahead for us.

the population wont put up with covid being the only topic on the political agenda for many years.

people are hoping for an end, but i think that may be a childish wish

Let me introduce you to the concept of herd immunity.

Yeah, BUT
We get influenza each year.
AND we have maybe 60 % of people having herd immunity.
So it's not going thru like wildfire,
But that 40 % who are susceptible can still spread it around.

This appears about 4times as contagious as the flu.

So with 40 % still susceptible ( and your a real optimist if you think it will be lower then that). This will just continue to cause disease.

Say the vaccine works on 60 % of nursing home patients.
That's still a lot of people who could get it .

This, I think, will be the new normal.

We won't be  going back to the old ways until the population just tire of fussing about it
