On another note, if I also worked for NBNCo, I could also know your addresses with your IP if I chose to. I don't work for them nor would I choose to, so don't worry but they do have people working for them that have access to some of your info.

Not sure if it still applies with NBN, but many years ago under the old phone system, some telstra staff were able to listen in on your phone calls without anyone on the other end ever knowing about it. On their screen they got all the account holders details, as well as the details of the person receiving the phone calls (since at that time they were most likely with tesltra anyway).  I used to know a girl who worked there and she even let me listen to a few calls just so she could show off.

I have had to fix a few broken files via the server, but that does not require a password.

That is true for the forum but not as a net/sys admin of a school. In that position I did not even need to log in as them to see their data, it lived on the server. The point of logging in as them in that situation is to interact with the problem.

thats all well and good set.... DOES EVERYONE KNOW WHEN THEY OPEN AN ACCOUNT with NBN co... that their private information isnt exactly private??????????

does fds forum have privacy notification when joining?

oh btw any admin will be able to access your account....whenever!   as this doesnt seem to have had to pass fds permission.....if you share an account...and used that to give this so called permission.. how do you know its the real person????....couldnt it be anyone?...

I think it's a given that whenever you give people info for an account, people can see it. Indian call centres?

In my last job, logging in as a user was done often. It was pretty much the quickest way to find a problem with their profile/userdir problems. The alternative was having them log in for you and sit there while you did your stuff, that's not really going to get your job done or fix the problems in a timely manner when there are 300 students and staff as well as the other work.

If you trust your data to an admin, like everything else, it's on your head. If the admin is doing the wrong thing with that level of access hopefully he will pay the price if they misuse the access you have given them. You trust your data on every site you log into will not be used.

I have no idea what Aussie has or has not done in that regard so I'm not going to meat slap his face about that. I think it's perfectly OK to enter someone's account if they have given explicit permission.

Many people, every day have access to your private info and behave professionally.

That is fairly normal in a work situation, however, Arsie was talking about a FORUM where the most you need to do is use the Admin tools to change a password, if needed, or to hide, move, etc. threads and ban people. At PA any technical stuff is handled by Freediver, not the "exhalted leader" (Admin). Arsie was wrong to go into Mantra's account to change a bloody password!

isnt that invasion of privacy?.. I mean we are talking about any old tom dick or harry.......

I know if the Police access someones privacy   and its not their job to do so... they get the sack...
whats the difference..???    if the police want to listen on a persons phone line they have to get someones permission to do so...... why is this any different.?

I knew that Mantra had made a comment, somewhere, about Arsie logging into her account at PA and reading her PMs.

How's this? Post #74

Mantra said "thank you", did she?  Grin Grin Grin Grin

The reference to the "fraudulent message" was regarding SuperNova doing a screenshot of a message.  Same link but earlier posts if you are interested in what that was about! Roll Eyes

you are asking me for a favor I dont do favors for mongs.....even more so for RUDE ones..

bo has already stated she would sink to your level... Roll Eyes Roll Eyespick your toys up   crybaby!

I am not asking you for a favour, you astonishingly incredible hypocrite.  I am saying that if you want me to provide proof of what I am telling you, then I need access to my account at that schitty place.

I have now checked, using Google Advanced Search function.  That lead me to the Thread in which Mantra posted here at OzPol about her account password at that other place.  Having read the thread gave me a date to focus on in my PMs, hers to me and my reply via PM.

I cannot post her PMs but I can post mine.  Here you go:

I can give you a new password.  BUT.......you need to know that before I can, I have to enter your account to change the password from what it is, to a new one.  If I enter your account, I will have the capacity to access and read your PMs.  I would not, but I want you to know that I could.

What do you want me to do?

After she replied, I did what I said I did, and handed her the new password.

QED.

Was the "fraudulent" message any worse than the administrator of a forum (being you) logging into a member's account and posting a message from it?

Yes or no, Aussie.

Far worse.

That's a matter of opinion. Good thing I deleted most of the secret and incriminating messages before prying eyes had a chance to read them Aussie. You were only left with the benign messages to read - disappointingly for you.

Just imagine if some of those private messages had contained personal information - I really would be in trouble then.   Smiley

I think I'd prefer someone posting a fraudulent screenshot saying I was gay than actually have the administrator of a forum infiltrate my account for a stickybea
