Water features add SO MUCH to the beauty of a garden! Is why I want a pond connected to a fountain or waterfall.

Tell me why these artificial material water features are so damned expensive?

My wife wants one for our pergola area that now has a new epoxy coating on the concrete.

Anywhere from $300 to $1500 for a half decent one.   Shocked

Algae will grow in the water so you need a good filter to keep it out of your fountain (or whatever) and that likely is the expense. Plus an electric pump working under water.

Water features add so much to a garden or outdoor setting and the sound of a gentle purling of water is relaxing. A practical use of ponds—frost protection for frost tender plants. You can make a pond better with the right plants: water lilies—make sure your fountain does not make the tops of the water lily leaves wet and no current around them—and Louisiana swamp iris can make spectacular flower displays. The iris can escape the pond but who cares, you just see a few more of the flowers. Can use plantings around the ponds to increase the effect.

The play of the sun in the pond during the day, the use of lights above and below water level etc etc all maximise the effect. Some native fish in the pond and any mosquito larvae get gobbled up—and fish can be another whole experience, fun feeding them, movement in the pond etc.

Fantastic photos, Lols.
The sad thing is I can't see any of us being able to travel for a very long time. Even when borders open, travel insurance won't pay out for covid related illness so it will just be too risky.

We'll have to travel vicariously through your photos instead. Smiley

You can make plants the highlight—topiary etc, zero interest: all that work and what do you get? A poor copy of a bird or whatever.

Can make trees the highlight AND get fruit from them—a tunnel of fruit trees:

Roses or other flowering climbers can be made quite a highlight—growing over an arbor:

Water features are a breeding ground for mosquitoes unless you have fish to eat the larvae.

That is probably why I said: “Some native fish in the pond and any mosquito larvae get gobbled up”

I didn't read that. My bad. Perhaps too distracted by pics to see all the text between them.

Edit: I'd add that people in more northern climes than Sydney need to learn what Cane Toad eggs and tadpoles look like. Perhaps you would like to post that information.
