There are mozzies and flies and one or two other pests in our gardens. If you want a nice garden setting—BBQ, table & chairs etc—and not be bothered by these flying pests there is something you can do.

One of the Medieval strewing herbs, spread on the floor of the banquetting hall etc to keep fleas a bit at bay was tansy.

Tansy grows 1.5m, maybe higher in warmer climates or better soils etc. Bit straggly, not the most ornate flowering plant, not the worst either. Include it in plantings around your outdoor relaxation/dining area and enjoy fly and mozzie free outdoor living! Plant it around your backdoor—many fewer flies make it into the house.

If your pond is at ground level more than likely frogs will find their way into it. In certain areas, cane toads may too. Their eggs do not look like frog eggs at all:

You may at some time in the right locations see a fish eating snake in your pond.

My pond was a galvanised metal tank, 650mm deep, 1800mm wide. After removing an orange tree and its roots up to 7 metres long I started digging a hole to put the pond in. This was prior to my hip replacement operation and I was suffering major pain—I gave up digging more so about 250mm of the pond was above ground. No frogs.

Algae is an easy fix ... & the electric pumps are cheap as.... I've got a fish pond out the front ... the motor in that was relatively cheap & has been going for years.

The filter .... with an algae killing UV light was more expensive. Currently the one I have is about $190 to replace.

Had not heard of Tansy being invasive, the two I had died after a while. I planted mine in pots, dunno if that stopped it being invasive.
