Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has resigned from cabinet and the Parliament, just a day after Premier Daniel Andrews revealed she was "accountable" for the botched hotel quarantine program.

"I know that my statement and evidence to the inquiry would have been uncomfortable for some.

Sounds like she has done the right thing at last.

Ms Mikakos said she took responsibility for the department, but said the hotel quarantine program was not her responsibility alone.

"I have never wanted to leave a job unfinished," she said.

"But in light of the Premier's statement to the board of inquiry and the fact that there are elements in it that I strongly disagree with, I believe that I cannot continue to serve in this Cabinet."

well done Jenny you have resigned but I dont think in shame shame on those who know the truth lets hope it jumps up and bites the lot of them..

the silence is mind numbing....this didnt happen without official say so and sign off...it just didnt..

the facts are people DIED after this chaos.and mismanagement....

she knows hes lying through his teeth...

she probably even knows who signed off on it... but wouldnt dare say unless she wants to end up in the river....

at least she has integrity....I bet the rest are under their beds sweating.

Victorian Shadow Health Minister Georgie Crozier says Premier Daniel Andrews “needs to go” next after her Labor counterpart Jenny Mikakos quit Cabinet and flagged her intention to leave parliament amid the state’s hotel quarantine inquiry.

Mr Andrews named Health Minister Mikakos accountable for the failed hotel quarantine program at Friday’s inquiry.

“He threw her under a bus yesterday at the hotel inquiry, he wanted a scalp to make him look good, but, honestly, he has got a lot to answer for,” Ms Crozier told Sky News.

“She’s gone now but only on Thursday Daniel Andrews was backing her and said he had confidence in her.

“He has lied, he has actually made so many cover-ups, or said so many cover-ups, in relation to this whole dreadful situation.

“And he’s still got his position, he says accountability stops with him, he needs to go too.”

Ms Crozier said her party has a no-confidence motion in parliament and called on state MPs to ask themselves if Labor and Premier Andrews are “right for Victoria”.

“We had in this inquiry 10 senior bureaucrats that couldn’t tell us who appointed the security guards in the hotel quarantine program,” Ms Crozier said.

“Three ministers, including Minister Mikakos and the premier, none of them knew.

“They all need to go.”

Ms Crozier attacked Labor for a “litany of failures” which she said would plague Victorians for years.

“Every man, woman and child are going to pay the price of this government’s mistakes for years to come,” she said.

“Hundreds of people have lost their lives, and people are losing their livelihoods, their businesses are going broke, they won’t re-open.

Sorry to see Jenny Mikakos resign. She has worked tirelessly in this pandemic. Premier Andrews assertion that the Health Minister was responsible for the Quarantine system lacks logic. How could a Health Minister direct Police to be involved?

I think he should. These Premiers are tougher than the Feds who let the Virus in on the first place. Dan is showing his Iron Fist and the other Premiers are just as hard. Jenny bent the knee and had to fall on her sword as expected. It's how the major Corporations of the World succeed. You don't take out the top brass. They have immunity from the culling of the middle-class of Politicians. When you're Middle-Class Politics - the traditional ritual of rite of passage is to dodge the bullet from above to get there.
