It will be displayed. My pieces will be cleaned and I will find out the history of them.

One of the irons I think is not antique or vintage but a modern day iron used by street vendors in Asia to press people’s clothes—there will be a brazier with hot coals at the back of the stall. But I have a “chimney” iron put aside for me, will buy that next weekend.

As I said, I love studying the onward march of technology. Between the 18th and 19th century there is a jump in technology:

• 18th century beer was Porter, a half-industrial beer. Porters were strong and strong flavored with smoky notes. Only the big landowners could afford pale malt.

• 19th century coal was burned in the absence of oxygen to get “town gas” and turpentine etc. What was left, coke, had no volatiles and burned cleanly and steadily, no smells and no off flavors, all burned off in the coke making process. The 19th century beer was pale ale, India Pale Ale the iconic style (tho it lasted at most 2-3 decades.)

• Porcelain and fine china, using coke there was no “kiln dust” to put black spots on porcelain.

How much did the Napoleonic Wars contribute to the pace of technological development? Had to have boosted the pace of technological improvement, wars always do.
