Last week I finally got rid of a Brushtail Possum that was living in my reverse cycle A/C ducting. The Government declared possums are a protected species, but the government won't help you get rid of them, they tell you to fork out a fee to pay a professional to do it - typical of the friggin government
I went through winter without heating wondering how I could piss the little bludger off out of the ducting without injuring him or destroying my ducting. I tried poking the soft ducting with a piece of timber while he was sleeping during the day, and left smelly stuff around, but nothing was working
So I set up the wildlife camera near a tear in the ducting (under my high block house) and recorded what times he was arriving and leaving. He was leaving at 6pm in the evening, and arriving back just after 2am very early in the morning.
In the end I decided to destroy the ducting by cutting it in half right where the tear was, leaving the two ends hanging down and out of reach. This was at 6:30 one night after he'd left, then I set the camera rolling to see how he reacted when he came back ... Hilarious! they're almost human, the camera recorded him dangling from the floor of the house checking out the two ends of the ducting, one of which he could just reach, but it was the wrong end, not the one that leads to his bed much further along in the other direction
He buzzed off, but came back two nights in a row to check it out again, no good, so he went and hasn't come back
I ought to send the Government the bill to get my ducting repaired, out here in the bush, that's going to cost about $700, traveling time, labour, and any materials
Great viewing from the wildlife camera though, worth loading onto YouTube
