While I was in the yard (unfenced) it flew past me a few times, back and forth, low down level with my waist and only 18" away, it finally landed and walked up close to my feet. I bent down to stroke it and it only edged away an inch or two each time, and it seemed reluctant to go anywhere in a hurry, it stuck around and if I moved away it walked up to my feet again. Wished I had my camera on me, no luck
This is very unusual behavior for wild King parrots, I've never seen anything like it before. It's possible I suppose it might be an escapee from an aviary and it never learned how to feed itself in the wild, it got used to humans maybe. The King parrots that have visited here in the past headed straight for a particular bush in my yard, fed from that and buzzed off when finished feeding. No way I could get close to those
I take strange behavior from wild birds as warnings, it's a matter of guessing what realistic events can happen. I'm not sure about this King parrot though, it may just have been his way of saying "I'm hungry"
Did you feed it something? He came back the day before yesterday, he saw me repairing the dirt driveway curb, after the rain, which the Council refuses to do. This time I had sunflower seeds I bought at Coles and he hoed into them, he must have been starved, it says on the internet not to feed them too much, but he wouldn't stop shoving them down his gob, he hung around a lot longer than last time waiting for more but took off, so I placed a handful where he could see them and they soon disappeared. He'd make a great pet, but they gotta have their freedom, I envy them, they got heaps more freedom than us
