Our canary died at 2.20 pm.

Time for her funeral.

I don't know what to do. Everyone around me is crestfallen. I need to water the garden and a certain section of it is too upsetting to go near.

I'm handling it better than the others in our family which has surprised me. I think it's because I recently lost my mother so THAT event was (and still is) the most painful.

I know all this next stuff belongs in the Relationships forum but our relationships with people and animals are incredibly similar esp if your pet is considered a family member and treated as such.

You know what's really confronting about this? I STILL suck at grief and loss!

Having said that I think my mind/heart/soul now somehow processes loss differently ie it somehow compares it to losing Mum. It's as if losing Mum is the standard against which I can now gauge my feelings/responses. I don't quite know how else to understand this.

I need to look for a new canary ASAP as her cage and food packets etc are still here and she's not. Her silence is deafening. She sang and chirped and loved watching Foxtel kids channel (which is what we're watching now) 🥺

Ok.

Having lived with several of the breed I've learnt two things  >
A: They're able to outwit humans.
B: The hair they shed all year is a nightmare.
