Signwriting Course Class.
A mixed-blooded Phillipino like young guy student approached me in class. Got into my face eye-ball to eye-ball and with a Fijian in the class also he asked "You calling me a N_____r!?  Angry" for no reason but to try and intimidate and bully another supposedly 'white guy'. The attempt for emotional blackmail was there.
I just casually, as if reflex said "Depends. Do you come from West Africa and specifically two nations named after that word?"
He got perplexed and frustrated. The Fijian laughed to himself quietly.
I should have punched him square in the nose for his attempt to 'racially' bully another by default and emotional blackmail. But I just turned away to continue my artwork and let him deal with his own demise.
What gets me is all these darkies that are not even remotely racially or genetically associated with Bantu people - try to jump on their gravy train and violently use the platform to intimidate and lawsuit white people.
...like Adam Goodes; the all Australian African American Aboriginal.  Tongue

I find that some people from different cultures do not understand the Australian etiquette of taking the piss.

I'd question calling it etiquette... Taking the piss is not intended to be polite, it's intended to be light-hearted banter... And it is...

And, yes, it does seem to take non-Australians aback somewhat, but, apparently people from South Boston, Massachusetts (Southie) would understand it in an instant, leading me to think that the Australian custom of taking the piss is an appropriation from Irish culture.

Could be why there's likely a relationship between the Irish expression of 'taking the rise out of you' and the Australian 'taking the piss out of you'.

They both appear to refer to being 'piss proud'... The false erection you can get when your bladder is full. You may look 'virile' but once the 'piss is taken out of you'... well... there's significant shrinkage.

We Australian flatter ourselves, especially about our self-criticism. But there are definite limits. You are not allowed take the piss out of anyone's elocution, or lack thereof, but you are allowed to take the piss out of any other nationality's manner of speech.

When i was growing up in a small country town, I quickly learned the "Taking the Piss" Etiquette.

If someone called me a name, if I reacted the shite stirring got worse. You learned not to react and laugh with them.

I observed some kids reacting to names and then that name became their nickname for life. So when nicknames were being allocated, around 15-16 years old, I didn't react to any names I was called. I eventually got a nick name that wasn't bad.

Others got names like "Poof", "Gerkin" (because he had a skin like a gerkin), "Coon", "Monster".... etc.

Really?

So Australian comedians hamming up 'strine' and taking the piss out of 'Australian received pronunciation' can't happen?

Something Magda Szubanski, Jane Turner and Gina Riley (among many, many others) made a career out of.

And, lest we forget, the great Barry Humphries, who turned Australian-culture piss-taking into a world-famous art form with the likes of Dame Edna Everage, Sir Les Patterson and Bazza Mckenzie.

I am an Australian in terms of Nation
And a Public Servant in terms of vocation,
But there’s one thing amazes my critics and that’s
How many I wear in terms of hats:
I chair the Cheese Board, I front the Yartz
You could term me a man of many parts
I’m a Renaissance type, if you know the term
And I’ve held long office in terms of term,
Yes I’ve long served Australia in terms of years
And in terms of refreshment I like a few beers.
My opponents are mongrels, scum and worms
Who I bucket in no uncertain terms
And my rich vocabulary always features
Large in terms of my public speeches
My favourite terms in terms of debate
Are: “broadbased package” and “orchestrate”.
But on term I never employ is “failure”
Especially when talking in terms of Australia!
For in terms of lifestyle we’ve got the germs of
A ripper concept to think in terms of.
Yes, in terms of charisma I’ve got the game mastered
In anyone’s terms I’m a well-liked bastard.

"I chair the Cheese Board, I front the Yartz"

He sat on the Cheese Board for many years, even though the little flags sticking up his arse were quite painful.
