Petrol Lawnmowers on Sunday Morning
Dec 20th, 2020 at 10:03am

It is a specially inconsiderate person who insists on disturbing the peace of the only peaceful day of the week, and if you look at the perp's lawn you will often find that it didn't need doing because the did it last Sunday. I believe many are just bored Sh1!less and cannot wait to get back to work on Monday.

It's a pet peeve of mine.

The arsehole who lives across the road does it for three hours every single Sunday morning.

He starts at 8.30am, with the lawnmower, and it doesn't stop until about 11.30am.

Lawnmower, edger, then leaf blower.

Inconsiderate prick!

10 o'clock start on Sunday - if earlier they are breaking the rules.

I don't know of any council in Australia that has a rule like that.

Do you have a link to your council's by-laws?

Or, did you mean societal rules?

Construction noise is controlled by council by-laws, but not domestic lawnmowers as far as I'm aware (this is a generalisation - I'm sure some councils are different).

Construction noise is usually restricted to 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday (not permitted on Sundays and Public Holidays).

I've just done a search on a few council websites, and I can't find any rules governing lawnmowers.

However, I'm sure if someone decided to mow their lawn at 6am on a Sunday, they just might find the lawn dead the following week.

not a lot of help....this is NSW..

Power tools and equipment (powered garden tools – e.g. lawn mowers and leaf blowers – electric or pneumatic tools, chainsaws, circular saws, gas or air compressors and swimming pool or spa pumps)      Before 8am and after 8pm on Sundays and public holidays

Before 7am and after 8pm on any other day      Local council or police

no peace for the wicked.

A simple solution if you need to mow your outdoor carpet before those hours is to use an electric mower. My Ryobi is very quite the only down side having to recharge the battery so I bought two. The significant advantage is no more spent on petrol and being able to charge the thing with solar power. The same batteries also run my hedge clippers.

If you don't want to hear your neighbours move to a rural block.

Just as bad as people who move near a pub where bands play then put in a noise complaint

Pfft.

4 stroke mowers are not loud -
it's the 2 stroke mowers and weed eaters that make all the noise.

I bet you have a battery operated stump-jump plough too.

One of my neighbours works 6 days a week and only has Sunday morning to get the yard work done. Of course he could afford a mowing service but he enjoys doing it himself.

You'd have to be a schithead to begrudge him that little pleasure.

I also enjoy doing my own lawns, for 2 hours nobody comes near me for fear of being asked to help. I have lekky gear and it stuggles to cut really well but I make do.

Like those Sydney Nimbys who complain about the noise of Luna Park operating near their newer Apartments and Mansions that were built after.
Or the Nimbys of Sydney who 'block' the walkways between the properties to stop the public cacophony of beach goers and to go so far as 'fence off' their section of the beach as their own property and stop public access.

I have a number of battery operated devices, some I’m very fond of. I’ll let your imagination run riot with that one.
