Anti-lockdown protesters gathered outside the Australian Open in Melbourne Park on Friday night, hours before the lockdown was due to kick in.

Police were at the scene including a line of officers and some mounted officers as hundreds marched through the CBD.

Some of the crowd were holding signs reading "Victoria Says No", "Masks Are Muzzles" and "Australia Open, Victoria Closed".

In video of the protest shared on Facebook, captioned "Victorians are sick of lockdowns", protesters could be hearing singing lines from Twister Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It".

I wonder if Freediver will start a thread about this protest spreading the virus?

Interestingly I can't find this protest being reported in any Australian media

You're in Melbourne Barnacle? You should've seen it on the news, we watch Channel 7...and yes, we saw the protest of several hundred protestors.

But what else do we have to do to idle our time away during stage 4, bar watch TV news and then Netflix eh  Grin

Oops (again).

Victoria's CHO says there's no cause for concern over Greek tennis player's case

https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-australian-open-on-high-alert-afte...

Quote:
Victoria's Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton has talked down fears Australian Open players could have been exposed to COVID-19 after a Greek tennis player tested positive after departing Australia.
Asked whether he was concerned by the revelation made overnight, Professor Sutton said "I don't think so".

I'm pretty sure all of the people of Victoria might be a bit concerned by this revelation especially since there's a definite possibility the latest lockdown may go beyond 5 days.

No.
First when he became our premier, but then really angry when he refused quarantine help from our defence army (I had this gut feeling it was a huge mistake not to and I was correct)...whilst NSW went with them and succeeded, while our state of Victoria went bad as bad could be... but when Our Vic Prem denied he refused the army’s help, and then stated he wasn’t offered it... (when there’s proof he was offered and he did in fact refuse) that really riled me up.

I try to find a positive... only positive is... lockdowns, masks, distancing, and hand sanitizers helped to diminish the spread of infection... but keeping elderly folk locked indoors was a huge mistake as was when the passengers of the Ruby Princess kept on board the ship for weeks locked up while the virus spread throughout the vents.

They say we live and learn... but not politicians that are drunk on power play. Speaking of which... brings me to mention the Qld Prem....my 2nd most disliked Premier.

Victoria records one new local COVID-19 case, one in quarantine as lockdown continues

https://www.smh.com.au/national/victoria/victoria-records-one-new-local-covid-19...

Let's hope for Victoria's sake the numbers drop to zero from here on.

Former WHO epidemiologist urges Australia to shut borders without delay

https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-border-restrictions-former-who-sci...

Quote:
Australia should shut its borders to overseas travellers immediately and build specialist quarantine centres, according to a former World Health Organisation epidemiologist.
Adrian Esterman, a biostatistics expert at the University of South Australia, told 3AW that no overseas travellers should be permitted in Australia until the country's most vulnerable people and quarantine workers are vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Our only source now of infection are others coming in from overseas, so if we stop overseas travel there will be no infections," Professor Esterman said.

Quote:
"Hotels were never designed to be quarantine stations, they're not designed for it architecturally, their ventilation systems aren't designed for it, and they're in the middle of cities, which is silly," Professor Esterman said.

Exactly what a lot of people (myself included) have been saying for some time now.

But, will Scott Morrison and the Federal government take any notice? Not a chance is my guess.
