Had a bit of concern for myself yesterday when I had a bit of a sore thoat during the day.

It's gone today though.

Actually, I suspect it had a lot to do with the 'WA Department of Ecocide and Pyromaniacs' smothering the Perth metropolitan area with smoke over the past several days with their "prescribed burns".

Prescribed burns cause metro area to become blanketed in smoke

Friday afternoon was the worst, it looked like it was going to rain at one stage as it was so dark and the sun was a dark red/orange colour for most of the afternoon. We even had ash falling from the sky.

This happens every year and it severely affects people with asthma and other health issues. I've also heard a number of people die every year as a result of this smoke.

But, just like with Covid deaths the government doesn't care. Whatever is shown on the spreadsheet has to be burned on a particular day - unless it's raining, of course.

We might have some rain on Tuesday and Wednesday and perhaps the rest of the week as well. Bring it on - at least we'll be able to breathe for a while.

Normally they try to avoid doing the burnoffs unless there's west/southwesterly winds blowing which takes the smoke inland and away from the Perth metropolitan area but we've had east/northeasterly winds for about a week now which does the opposite as we've seen the past few days.

I suspect they're in a hurry to burn off as much as possible before the rain sets in again (Tuesday or Wednesday at this stage). At least it's clear today, bit of cloud around and that's all so far - I'm guessing they have the day off today with it being Sunday.

Ash and elm are good, cork oak fine (other oak is as fire resistant as a Eucalypt) and oleander as well. Some natives. Fruit trees, vege patches good—ember and grass fire obstacles.

all land holders have a "personal responsibility' to prevent fuel build up on their land.

the only ones who dont take it seriously are the government forrestry reserves, national parks and greenies blocks.

they are usually choked with lantana and other undesirable undergrowth and go up like an atomic bomb, destroying everything

Went to our local chemist this morning to get some more prescription tablets for my aunt.

Very busy in there... apparently lots of people have suddenly decided it's time to get their flu (and maybe Covid) vaccinations.

Of course I was the only one there wearing a mask, not a single mask to be seen amongst the other customers and staff.

But there was plenty of hand sanitiser available to use though.

And the pharmacist also told me they were short staffed at the moment. I wonder why?

Nice article... except...

1. They're implying that the flu is worse than Covid (anyone who said that 2 or 3 years ago would have been crucified).

2. They're implying this "rampant new strain" only (or mostly) affects children.

I'm also prepared to bet that most of the hospital admissions from this "rampant new strain" are probably Covid.

Anyway, I wonder if we'll see a few more people wearing masks in the coming weeks? No mention of masks in the article, of course.

I'm surprised they're not encouraging people to wash their hands more. Just the "vaccines only and let it rip" plan like we've seen with Covid. Roll Eyes

I did have an encouraging sign that mask use may be on the increase because when I caught the bus back from the shops an hour ago the bus driver and several other passengers besides me were wearing masks.

And the bus driver also had the bus's airconditioning turned on, it might have been just blowing air (from outside, hopefully) but it's more than I've seen on buses lately on the rare occasion I catch one.

Strangely enough, a friend of mine who works up north rang me yesterday and said he's been bed-ridden with the flu for the last two weeks.

He had COVID earlier in the year and says that the flu was worse Undecided

And yes, I've noticed more people wearing masks lately which is good.
